Re: Chimney Repair

Make sure you ask him how much he charges and if thats wiht materials.

Just kiddin... but make sure to ask if he will use tarps on your roof, if he will repour a cap for you, if he's going to replace the flashing, and/or any damaged flu liners.

Re: Chimney Repair

Master P.
Demo is the big question! I will not quote $$$ as to taking anything down 'cause I don't know how it went up. I know how long it takes me to build said stack and how I build them, but I don't know how the previous mason constructed his work of art. Did he fill it solid and that's why it's in need of repair, and if he did, the take down is labor intensive. Some come down with a breath and others DON'T! Ask about that part of the project.

Re: Chimney Repair

depending on the number of brick "popping off" there may not be a need to tear the chimney down.i would ask him if it is possible to just replace the bad brick.
and like 6 said, made sure he covers the roof.it will get messy.if he puts carpet down over the shingles that helps alot.he can find throw away carpet at the local carpet store in the dumpster.
i would also make sure he water proofs the work when he is finished.dont expect a cheap fix.i had 2 of my guys working on a chimney repair wed.the replaced about 15 brick and regrouted a few joints.charge was $900.00.did another one yesterday.
