Brick Veneer

So I got a call from a GC who wants me to bid on "lick n stick brick job, 1,000 sq ft".

I've never done thin brick veneer before. Well, once, but it was very different, small job, like 100 pieces. How many sq ft thin brick can I expect in a day? I believe my average is around 100 sq ft a day for thin stone veneer, give or take, depending on wether it is ground level or up high, and wether or not I have a helper. I'm just wondering how the two compare, time-wise. I'd like to get the job, but being still fairly new to the contractor game, I fear screwing this one up. Thanks.

Not an expert in this field, you may want to do a search of previous threads. But I do recall a thread where the guy was struggling to reach 100 square foot per day. The crap seems to be slower and more expensive than a normal brick veneer.

Depends on what method you are using to install. Lath and mortar is the most common method but it also takes the longest. Of the think brick "systems", the TABSII panels are the best IMO. In the middle of a 3,000s.f. job with them right now. Bricks are applied with a couple dots of adhesive and courses are always straight. This is much faster than lath/mortar, not to mention much cleaner. The issue is that materials will cost the HO about $2/s.f. more than the lath/mortar method.

Anyway, with TABSII, once the panels are up, a fast worker can apply about 200s.f. of flat in a day. I would recommend getting a mortar gun for pointing. Grout bags are annoying and awkward in comparison.

Re: Brick Veneer

you can pop a real brick to the line from any angle, but these you almost have to look them straight on to line them up. I just did a 3500 sq. foot house with half fake stone & half thin brick. I parged the mesh, snapped orange chalk lines on courseing , spread beds with a grout bag & threw them to the lines & struck as I went. 80 to 100 sq. ft . is average as long as your helper is good.
