Brick Trade


is it just me or does it seem that are trade doesnt get the recoinition as other trades do when it comes to the home improvement shows , when i watch this old house and other shows dealing with construction the most i get dealing with masonry is a landscaper or a do it your selfer trying to lay brick whats up with this is are trade a joke or have the age of it made become instinct

I think that the wet trades play second fiddle because people think of carpentry when they think of building. It's probably this way because most houses are built out of little sticks (at least in the U.S.). I think your average homeowner (the audience for these shows) probably owns a skilsaw, but no plumb bob, much less a brick rule. Most people are scared of mortar, concrete, brick, block, and stone, because it takes a long time to learn to do even a mediocre job with them. In many other trades you can do a decent job at something with little experience, you will just be very slow.

Yeah artisan is dead right. But thats what makes it a good trade to be in.

when a do-it-yourselfer makes a mistake doing carpentry, he takes a claw hammer and pulls the nains out and starts over.With masonry he need a sledge hammer. That's what makes our trade hard for the novists."Pay me now or pay me later to come fix your nightmare"

Well according to a few self appointed "experts" on CT, "all you need is a trowel. It's not like you're an electrician or carpenter that requires all this education"
