Brick Grinding And Pointing
I need an idea if anyone can help me, on how to price out a job that includes grinding, pointing and caulking of a building that is approx. 7000sq.ft. Can anyone help?

Sure. Send the plans and specs, an airline ticket to visit the jobsite, give me all of your company financial records and I can can have you a price in good order.

Re: Brick Grinding And Pointing
dont bid it too low.
i just bid one and came in at 10,350.00,next bid was 32,000.high bid was 45,000. since my bid was so much lower than the others, they gave it to the 32,000 bid.

Re: Brick Grinding And Pointing
Here is how we figure restoration, 50 square feet per mason per day divided by 7,000 = repointing working days. Add working hours for equipment set up and tear down, masonry cleaning, caulking, and job clean up. Working days x daily labor cost = cost. Cost plus daily business operating cost (overhead) x 35% profit + job materials = total job cost
I would set the job up with 4 masons and 2 tenders and figure on 200 square feet a day. Which would give you about 35 working days on that 7,000 square foot job. Last edited by eoffmasonry; 08-25-2008 at 10:19 PM. |

Re: Brick Grinding And Pointing
I am pretty sure he meant that the footprint of the building is 7000SqFt. Could be 10' eaved walls or 16' parapet walls, who knows. How many windows and doors? Shrubbery and trees? Site access? White mortar, gray, or colored? Etc, etc. There is no way you can remotely estimate something with the info the OP gave.

Re: Brick Grinding And Pointing
I was just trying to help think out loud for him, if it was or wasn't 7,000 sq ft of wall. I know it's hard to do a estimate unseen. You know restoration doesn't happen as fast as new construction. People see new construction in progress unlike restoration. I was just giving him a platform to think on so he didn't fall victim to new construction production rates that so many think of in restoration work.
