Brick Facing Cracking

3" ABS downspouts are buried in the brick about 1/2" from the surface, solid brick everywhere but where the downspouts are. Top to bottom cracks at both downspouts.

I'm thinking the ABS is expanding in the heat and pushing forward on the 1/2" veneer brick. Anyone had this happen? I'm thinking the facing needs to be dismantled enough to get at the downspout, change the downspout to galv., and repair the facing.

Do I have any idea what I'm talking about?

Ideas?

Re: Brick Facing Cracking

Have never seen anything like that.
Why not patch the brick with brick,
and hang the downspouts on the
outside where they belong?

It's not that the pipe is pushing out. It's that the wall is thinest there. Expansion and contraction, where the pipe is, is the weakest point. Saw in a control joint and caulk.

I agree, but it looks cool how it is.... not sure I can talk him into that

That would work, but sure look like poo poo. It's the front of the house.... maybe wouldn't look too bad. Guess I'll go look again.

Thanks guys....
