Basement Slab Question

Am building a house that will have a partial basement; roughly 12'x22'. Basement walls will be concrete block (dry stack method). I am planning to pour concrete footers first; then form up and pour the reinforced slab second, then build the concrete block walls, installing expansion material between slab edge and block walls.

My question is do I have anything to gain by tying the slab to the footers with rebar placed at time footers were poured -or- will it be better to let the slab float on top of the footers.

Re: Basement Slab Question

As long as footers and slab are on a solid base, you won't need to worry about tying them into each other. One thing you can do is do a monolithic pour, then lay the block up.

Re: Basement Slab Question

Mike, I would pour the foundation, Build the walls to spec and then pour the slab within the walls. Once you have walls you will only need to put up forms at the exit's. Just remember to use expansion joint on all walls.

Also If you have lolly cloums helping to support the project remember to box them out and pour them at a later date when the job is under roof.

Re: Basement Slab Question

I am sorry I think I read your post wrong. Are you planning to build the wall on top of the slab. Why??? You are just asking to have water in your basement?

Lay your first course of block then pour to them.
