Anything The Client Wants.

I've been asked to do the damndest stuff over the years and I've always stepped up. My take is if it's difficult and nobody else can do it, I'm your guy. I know that there are many others on this forum that play the same way, so share your stories. CJKarl and I can do anything that's asked and I know that Stan, our mentor can too. The old joke about the architect saying "I drew it, build it" is also in play here

I hope I get some replies or I might go back to my vacuum. It's a nice vacuum mind you. It's served me and my crew for nearly twenty years.

Re: Anything The Client Wants.

yeah, what's an invert?

I'll only build things that I feel are right. If someone were to ask me to build something that didn't "feel" good, I wouldn't.

But one weird thing I built was a sort of a shrine. I put stone on an old fellows house and later that fall i got a call because he had dropped a fountain on his toe. The fountain was a statue of a topless woman carrying a basket which had the water pouring out of it. He felt that the fountain had hurt his toe because the lady felt like he hadn't been paying enough attention to her, so he wanted us to build a stone "shrine" for her to stay in.

It was actually a fun little project. I should go back and take a picture of that one. He made great coffee and wine and had lots of neat stories too

I built a bunch of inverts this year. they suck! not bad when you are down 5-6 feet but when they are 2-4 feet its a tight squeeze.

Re: Anything The Client Wants.

It would be hard for me to single out anything, mainly because I'll do anything with stone masonry if given the chance. I have been very fortunate to have worked for two very different master stonemasons before I went off on my own. The first one was hooked into the high end market and did mostly contemporary work. There was some fieldstone work, but just enough to prime me for the next boss. He was traditional all the way... historic restoration, tons of dry stone walls and flat work. I guess I am a combination of them both...plus, I never stop trying new things in stonework, and I'm never afraid to do something different.

Re: Anything The Client Wants.

I am my own worst enemy in coming up with something different/difficult.

Now I want to build a "invert" to carry stormwater off the road then under a living fence onto my property.

Re: Anything The Client Wants.

Besides laying bluestone paving I hardly build the same thing twice. Always something different. Even my chimneys are never the same. I know some guys that build the same chimney 30 times in a subdivision. They can build that chimney FAST and know the materials and time involved to the last brick.

Yeah i can`t do the same thing day after day. I go crazy. After a month of laying limestone I get itching to lay some block. Before that job is over I start thinking about the next job where I get to lay brick, then onto some man made stone and the cycle repeats itself
