Anyoen Build 8 Ft High Masonry Steps?
I just looked at a job today. Real high end area. So i can't use SRW block for this job. I am going to have to sub to a mason. The front door is at road leve. The drive goes down hill and the garage goes into the basement.
From the driveway to front door heigh, i have a difference of 8 feet. Right now the have 11 steps with threads of about 3 feet. All concrete. Real uncomfable to walk up. I want to change it to 2 stair case of about 6 stairs each with about a 5 foot walkway in between. I'll have a 4 ft wall at the bottom on both sides of the stairs, and proably another 3 ft wall at the being of the second flight. I need to dig down 42in poor a footing, then go up with block and brick it. Its a major job. Anyone have any pics of anything like this. I found this pic on the net http://www.colorbloomgardens.com/aa_030.75.jpg and i am looking for a smilar shape to this, except with a landing half way up and another set of walls. I just want to find some acctually pictures to give the homeowners a better idea. Matt |

What type of stone do you anticipate using?

I need to use brick to match the house. The pic was just to show the type of stair case.

I've done a few like that. I pour a slab the full size of the steps, then build everything out of block. Making allowances for veneering and placing of the treads. We use alot of 2" bluestone for treads around here. We also have a local block plant in the area and you can get over-run and off color block at a discount.

Cj- Yea i figured pouring a slab below the frost level and building up from there was the way to go. Still a ton of block. I'm going to get some ballpark prices and just run the idea past the customer before i make anyone spend to much time figureing out estimates. I have a feeling it will be in the 15k range for just the steps. Does that seem like a decent ballpark?

How wide are the steps? how many steps? what will be the tread material? (limestone, bluestone, etc...) will demo and excavtion be includeed in price? Can you find a brick that matches the existing house?
