After Repair Repair
I recently done some major repair to a floor that was rotten due to a bad leak and poor drainage, long story. Anyway, the floor had dropped an inch or so in the area which also had a stone fireplace. The mortar joints had opened up in this area. After jacking the floor up and back where it should be the joints still have cracks. Since the stones had moved would they need to be reset in mortar before regrouting?
Advice on properly fixing this? How would you estimate the work? sf of area or lf of joint? Thanks

Re: After Repair Repair
Maybe my question doesn't rate a reply, oh well. I wasn't asking how much to charge at least.

Re: After Repair Repair
All of the joints in the fireplace have cracked?
If they are just small cracks I imagine you could just clean up the joints with an angle grinder and tuckpoint new mortar in. If they are large gaps in the joints and stone are loose, you might have to relay the bad areas of the fireplace. What type of stone is this?

Re: After Repair Repair
I know this will sound stupid, but they are just rocks. They appear to be local, many people around here used rock right off their property. 10 - 16" x maybe 3" thick. It is loose on one side, Gaps in joints vary

Re: After Repair Repair
remove and replay all loose stone and tuck point all cracked joints, its that simple.
more than likely it is native stone to your area, but that has nothing to do with what you need to do to fix your problem.
