Re: ????
The first jobs that I bid, I wrote down every single item that would be consumed for the job (both materials and things that wear out), and costed them at 130% of actual.
Then I wrote down every tool I would need to complete the job, and costed them as though I were either renting them (power tools) or buying them (hand tools), with exceptions for normal trade tools. The third step was to guess at how long each step of the process would take, and how many persons would be required, if more than one (I was working with epoxy coatings, so usualy more than 1). I would cost that at what I would have to pay someone to perform the work. Finally, I would add all those numbers up and add what I wanted to make on the job (usually 30%). Keep in mind that I when I costed the labor, I did not deduct for the work I personally would perform, it was figured in just like I was paying someone else to do it. This worked on jobs from about $500-5,000 (1980's dollars), and I never lost money on any job. You will not get every job you bid, and if you do, you are way too cheap. |

Re: ????
You first have to know the value of a day (overhead + profit).
Short jobs, a couple of hours = 1/2 day. Longer jobs, 4 hrs.+ = a whole day because you cannot go on to do something else.

Re: ????
on smaller jobs tack on your truck payment if you have one... couple hundred bucks is not a deal breaker.
