Re: Wanted: Old Barn Wood

Coleman,

I've got a 24' about 8x8 here you can have. Have you considered just getting or hiring a portable saw and distressing them? I'd think you could get a rustic look in a hurry. You could over-cut the beams by an inch all around, then cut down 1/2" on each surface every foot or so and scrape out the remaining 1/2" of material. I would think that would simulate a hand-hewn pretty well. Don't they make something like a single-sided axe which was used for hewing?

Re: Wanted: Old Barn Wood

I have some of the best wood! Its HOLY wood. Yep there is a church that is approx 120years old that is next to my building and the fella wants to sell it. I want the lot but I don't want the old church. Anyone open to taking the wood? I can fill the foundation. Trying to figure this out before I buy the place. If interested and can take some pics and send...

Re: Wanted: Old Barn Wood

I love getting the chance to dismantle old barns. About ten years ago I got a chance to rebuild an old barn. After meeting with them they soon found out that it was alot cheaper just putting up a new one. So part of the deal was I get to keep any old material that I wanted. I pretty much kept it all. Used alot of it to build my first shop. used some of the barn board for kitchen cabnits in my first home. Then one day someone pulled in and made an offer on the rest of it. Sold it for $3500. Wish i had the chance to get another one like before!
