Yellow Hats

When do the yellow hats disappear? There seems to be a yellow hat even after I go in and read the posts, then shut down and come back later. Other forums I have been on recognize right away after I have read something. I can't seem to figure out when this one recognizes it. Not a big deal, just bugging me that I can't figure it out.
