URLs And IMAGES Require 10 Posts

We have had some problems with Spam on this site. In an effort to solve this problem we have a new rule in place.

You MUST have at least 10 posts before you are allowed to post an image or URL on the site. If anyone registers and posts junk posts just to meet the 10 post quota we will ban you.

Sorry if this rules seem harsh but we have to stop the spam.

Thanks,

It doesn't seem harsh, it seems like a good idea
I'm with PWG on this one

I see nothing wrong asking that you be an active member of the community before being allowed to post URLs or pics

Wow, I didn't know you had the capability to do that. I've seen that at other sites and it works really well. I think that is a great idea. Just don't let it tell you through an error message how many more posts you need in order to post a URL or the spammers just do a quick 10 posts.

Re: URLs And IMAGES Require 10 Posts

My concern is that someone who is used to forums and knows how to set up their account with Avatars and Signatures wont be able to do so and might leave. I think it will work out fine though and worth it in the long run.

I think that most people who have been on other forums are used to needing some sort of control over people who join only to spam the group.
I may be new here on your site, but I'm not new to forums.
I think a requirement of 10 posts to upload links and such is OK. Of course, I say that, as I have about fifteen posts!

If they try and throw up an avatar or put a link in their sig. they'll get a message saying they need ten posts to do so?

Actually I was wrong. Your post made me test this out and you can add a link to a signature and a picture for an avatar. You just can't post a link or image in the actual post.

I think this will work better than I thought.

An avatar is a picture or image right below your name. Mine is the NGPP logo.

Did your region go from UBC 97/revised UBC 03 to IBC?
IF not that would be a tough transition.
