TeamSpeak

Suggestion for Admin folk to look into.

Teamspeak a voice com program free to users, apart from admin costs.

It allows users to voice chat.

The only negative I see is potential costs to the server and the loss of written word in the forums.

Re: TeamSpeak

Hmmm, i'm not sure about the voice chat but we will have a new chatroom soon. I'm waiting for a new version of our forum software to be released.

The voice chat seems a bit strange to me... am I the only one?

Re: TeamSpeak

Prolly not alone in your thinking. I've been in the internet gaming community for a couple of years and we rely on voice-com.

It's not a chat program, but real-time voice communication. Better than my long distance phone service at times. I talk to guys in England, Germany, Canada and across our country like they are right next door, with a slight delay granted. But we frag the enemy with it. Hoo-rah!

For non-commercial use it is free if you got server space. You can cordon off "rooms" for registered users and for your private use. There are as many options for controlling traffic as you have in your message boards.

For example, a new user needs to be granted "voice rights". Also, you can assign administators who can control everything, moving someone to a different channel, or room, or banning if necessary.

I don't think it would be a cost, but am only concerned if it restricts the free flow of information you should be proud of on this site.

Most of the guys in my gaming clan let the program run in the background while they are busy haunting the forums, lol. In other words, it needn't be a distraction.

If it costs you nothing, try it. It would be worth it to find out that Grumpy has a voice to beat Mickey Mouse. rofl!

How much more 'computer stuff' do I have to buy? Every time I turn around, this thing costs me more money.

Re: TeamSpeak

I'm just TO'd at the computer right now. I have been renewing things for the past week, It seems like I can't get on the damned thing without some popup wanting money. It's not the amount, it's the aggravation. End of tirade.

I'm with you. I ain't much of a phone guy at all.
Get on, get the info, hang up.
If there is an interest in real-time conversations, I'd like to see the chatroom used again. Easier for eveyone.
If I'm wearing headphones, it means I'm listening to Pink Floyd, not playing on the pc.

Re: TeamSpeak

Haha I shoulda guessed it GCMan! When you started flaming in that dress code thread, I should have known you were a gamer too. I always thought that we could smell our own

I use Teamspeak for gaming as well when there is a fun crowd to BS with, unless I have had more than 6-8 beers, then my wife bans me from using it for fear of me pissing someone off...LOL What games do you play man?

Dunno if I'd really dig talking shop tho.

Re: TeamSpeak

The Battlefield series is great. I dabbled with BF1942 and played the hell out of the BF2 demo, just havent gotten around to buying it yet. My primary game since it released 2 or so years ago has been Planetside, an FPS game but more of a MMO....you cant go wrong with a 400-man battle with combined arms.

About 250 of us from our server formed an outfit (clan) on one of the other servers and use Teamspeak to coordinate, gotta love the level of coordination when 50+ guys are all on TS together working together....there is much carnage

That BF2 is great, just gotta work a few copies of it into the budget one of these days (since I cant JUST get the game for me, my stepson and wife play the same games I do).

Its great to know Im not the only geek contractor out there!

Re: TeamSpeak

Nice glad to see some gamers on the board. I am a rainbow six fan! I have Been playing it since rogue spear.

I am still in a clan for Raven Shield. We are going for number 1 on the 2v2 team survival ladder on twl tomorrow!

Battle field 2 is ok game. I only played the demo as well. THe only thing it reminds me alot of joint opts. I bought joint opts last year and played it about 5 times. Can't get away from Raven Shield!
