Re: How To Enable Cookies

I thought cookies were bad. Whenever I go to one of my secure sites, like my bank or brokerage account on-line, I click on Tools/Internet Options and click 'Delete Cookies' and 'Delete Files' (temporary internet files). Is this not necessary? Thanks in advance.

Some cookies are bad. Cookies from tracking sites like Gator are very bad and will have a negative effect on your computer. They write to your registrey and collect personal data about you and send it to Big Brother. But cookies from your bank or these forums won't do any personal harm to you or your identity, for the most part...

I delete my cookies and temporary internet files every few weeks. You are in more danger if you use a credit card or do online banking than not.

The only thing that the cookies from this site are desinged to do is make your life easier. It makes it so you don't have to type in your password everytime you leave and tells Nathans (or vBullitens) servers which threads you have already veiwed.

All in all cookies for sites like this one OK. But you are probablly doing a good thing when you occasionally delete all those cookies.

Cookies aren't necessary bad....you should have a medium protection set on your browser. I really recommend getting AdAware (it's free) to look for spyware. You just install it and run it every few days to check for trojans or other spyware. I also recommend getting and using SpyBot. You can download them at www.downloads.com. The stuff were all afraid of isn't necessarily located in the cookies, it is usually in some obscure place....
