Google Toolbar
I had another thread about ie7. The reason I upgraded was because I was having problems with ie stalling out after I opened it up. You would open it up and it would go to the home page site and then lock up for about 10-15 seconds.
Well I found the problem. It is Google Toolbar, plain and simple. Deactivate it and the problem goes away, reactivate it and it comes back. It only happens on the initial startup of ie. Subsequent page changes work properly, just the initial startup.
So if you have the delay problem, now you have a place to look.
To deactivate it, in ie go to tools, internet options, programs [tag], manage add-ons [box] and scroll down into the add-ons and click on google toolbar and then choose disable by clicking on the open dot.
Restart ie and the problem should be gone. Only problem is I like the Google toolbar.

I tried ie8 and still had the problem went back to ie6. Somehow google toolbar upgraded itself to version 6 without me knowing it. I downgraded it back to version 5 and all is well again.

Just completely uninstall every toolbar. I hate toolbars.

Google is my Start page... I like it because it loads fast with no junk unless you added it yourself.
3 things to know about GOOGLE
1) All the links on the left of the page are what you searched for.
2) All the links on the rights are advertisements about what you searched for.
3) Google keeps a database of every single search you do FOR EVER! you meaning (((YOU!)))
I don't search for anything illegal or inapropriate, Now a lot of that stuff pops up and I click it out of curiosity... But if you search it and something goes down...
POPO: "SON, WHY WERE YOU SEARCHING FOR PIGGIES IN PINK DRESSES?"
MZ: "... Ummm...Errrr....Aaaahhhhh"
>SMACK!<
POPO: "ANSWER ME BOY!"
MZ: Rubbing the back of his head, "Ummm... ModernStyle said he was checking his MySpace!"
POPO: Looks at ModernStle... "Come here Son..."

Well you can use Firefox and install the add-in called NoScript. You can then block Google from tracking you....along with blocking unwanted ads, etc.
Firefox + NoScript + Adblock Plus = one of the best internet experiences possible!

I was searching around for pointless things this morning and ran into this and I have to say Angus......you've made my whole day with this information.

Well, you're welcome. I have been using Firefox since 2001 (back then, named Phoenix). Occasionally, you'll have a small issue but overall, Firefox is the way to go. It only got better with the addition of AdBlock. NoScript has taken that to another level. Of course, web designers are always trying to come up with new ways to force me to look at their content. AdBlock and NoScript, allow me to choose what I want to look at.
Occasionally I use Internet Explorer just to see what the internet actually looks like. I'm usually terrified
