The Good Book?

Years ago I found a construction book that I thought was excellent. I can't remember the name, but I really liked it and used it for a teaching tool for my help as well as picked up some excellent info myself.

Here's my proposition: let's say we talk Nat into adopting a good universal construction book for the site. We could call it The Good Book. We could pull pages to teach our help, maybe even use the book as a base and build on it from all our knowledge.

All goes well, maybe we could put together our own book, The Contractortalk Goodbook?

Input Fellas?

Bob

Glass,
I don't have any pictures to share at the moment so I'll just say I like the idea. It would or could be a great reference tool if done properly.

Re: The Good Book?

tball, PM me if you want to change your name.

I guess we could install a wiki software and have a user edited encyclopedia for the construction industry? Example: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page

Thoughts?

Re: The Good Book?

Not necessarily going to use wikipedia software but I was thinking an online encyclopedia that users could add content too. It may not be what you had in mind but its what I do so I naturally gravitate to it.

I have no idea how you would get something published now these days. Everything is moving to online content.

Hold your thoughts until you see it. It might surprise you

Re: The Good Book?

How about a online book of some sort. Has chapters and such but is published online on its own domain instead of in print?

That would be a good idea.

Set up a pole Nathan.

We can all make a donation monatary also if need be. I think that the other members would agree a one time donation and support fee would be cool. After all you do keep this site for free for us. I would pay dues to be a member if it wasnt. We have 5k members and alot to stuff to contribute.

I just made my 500th post and way cool. Great to be apart of some great people.

Re: The Good Book?

So, should it be broken down by topic and then we have authors for each topic?

Now we are thinking like designers. Good things will come of this kind of tweaking ideas around

YES good idea or hell even short stories. Maybe special projects section for builders master designs, deck specs , blue prints ect.

Pricing section for areas with due respect to ever changing lumber prices.

Tools section for the + and - of some products.
