Working For A Commercial GC
Hello!!
I started working for a commerical GC just about a month and a half ago and have determined here very recently that he's not exactly sure what he's doing on managing a large project. He is very disorganized, has no idea on how to handle draw requests from the bank, what documentation he needs, has no schedule in place, etc. The bigger problem is, he's my Uncle and I've offered my services to help him with all of this. So, here is my situation, I need to learn everything I can to manage the back end of a construction project soon. If not, well you know....it's not going to be pretty. He's very knowledgable when it comes to the actual building process (thank goodness). So, when I saw this forum, I just had to join and I figured I can learn whatever I can. |

Re: Working For A Commercial GC
Hi and welcome to the site. Hope this can all be pulled together quickly. You know, it wouldn't hurt to take on a consultant for such a situation. Such a person will get htings up and running properly and organized. In the process, you will be learning the right way of handling things, and not just guessing.
Good Luck!

Unfortunatly we see this all to often in the Commercial side. Maybe you can sit down with this guy and create a schedule. But I'll be honest this problem isn't some thing someone without some experience running these types projects can just figure out with a few words on a forum. It sounds like this guy needs to get to the bank and ask them how they need their billing. Usually draws are set up on completion milestones. The GC will submit an invoice and the bank will send someone out to verify the work is done then they cut a check. I Agree with Atlantic someone with exp. needs to get involved I wish you all the luck
