We are located on the Outer Banks, NC
Hello everyone,
My husband and I (yes, I wear a tool belt too! ) have been in business for ten years. We own and operate a small carpentry company here.
We built our own 2,300 sq. ft. home from the ground up (98% through blood and sweat equity). I'm originally from England and my husband from the Niagara Falls area of NY.
Business have been very good to us, but just like most areas, we have slowed to almost a halt. Nothing on the books for August.
We have done a wide range of work for our customers - for instance we completed the interior of a home to look like a ship, complete with a galley, we also built their kitchen cabinets onsite, kitchen table and l shape curved bench, we fabricated the trim accents through out. All walls, and most floors and ceilings were done in wood, except closets. We built built-in storage, used old doors and replaced hardware to complete the antiqued ship look. We built several areas to house nautical items and included beams from a barn as accents in the ceiling in a few rooms. We can email the link to the house so you can see our work.
If anyone knows of work in NC or of other long-term projects we would temporarily relocate if the job was right. We come with a 24 ft. trailer packed with all required shop tools and we have excellent references.
Feel free to email us at back.

Welcome! Ahh, Nags Head, Kill devil Hills, Kitty Hawk, and Wanchese. Used to live there. Good Times.
Oh, and Good Luck. I'm sure work will pick back up after all the tourists leave.

Hi CDAT,
I'm not allowed to post direct links until I have completed 15 posts - doesn't make sense but I will abide.
If you go to the typical www then you will need to type in twiddy.com, followed by /homes/4X4/carvova-beach/gull-cottage.aspx
once you type it all together, it should pop up. We did all the wood work you see in the home - kitchen table , cabinets and L shape bench, floors, walls, ceilings, built-ins, stairs, rails,.....you get it.
The project lasted 8 months and provided a good steady income for us. It was one of the best projects on interior carpentry that we have worked on. We had our challenges on that home - spending two months blocking for all woodwork and fixing the frames screw-ups but other than that, it was a great project.

Great work!
I live at the beach in Delaware. This place went absolutely beserk for about 8 solid years. Then - crickets and tumbleweeds.....
I've been lucky - I landed a good size job that will go for about a year. It's not enough though. September looks promising here. Maybe it will pick up down there then too.
Recently, the local lumber yards are reporting a bit of an upturn. Lets keep our fingers crossed!
I"ll have a large custom home trim job, but it won't be ready until January.

Hi JPC2,
Things have started picking up. We just got another small remodel. We are replacing carpet with hardwood and tile, removing doors, repairing thresholds, Installing new oak stairs, modifying kitchen cabinets and doing hardwood in there also. We gave them a huge break and threw in some free labor on small items, including removing existing flooring. This should keep us busy for a few weeks..... If the bait is good, the fish will come...... my train of thought anyhow. We have a bunch of letters out to property owners, it cost alot to produce (we do them), add toner, paper, stamps, labels (county tax records), if you do a large mailer it can cost up to $4,000.
I'm glad you have a year-long project. What line of work are you in? I'm new to this website so I'm not quite sure how to find that out.
Are you triming in January? I hope your project at hand is smooth sailing, worry-free and trouble free. Every home has a hick-up, but with the right team players can be fixed in no-time. I hope work picks up for everyone up there. Down here it's pretty sad, contractors pulling off, many trades left the area, also selling tools and equipment at a large discount. Sad really but some of us are managing to hold on. Heck, we are even down to mowing a few lawns, although with gas pricing it's not even breaking even but we don't want to let our customer down because we have received many nice projects from them.
Well, before I get kicked out for rambling, thanks and stay in touch.
