Span Question
Hi new to this site. I have a question from one of my customers regarding span? He built a 16' x 14' deck and wants a roof over it < lean to style>.
There is no middle support on either 14' or 16' side and has quite a span but does have 4x6 posts on the outside end and a 2x8 header for the rafters to sit on. Can this be possible with 2x6 rafters and 2x4 purlins @ 24" OC? with steel roofing on it??????????????? Here is a picture |

Re: Span Question
For such long spans you will need engineered lumber for the headers.

Re: Span Question
Hi. Welcome to the site, You're sure to find lots of interesting people and facts about contracting here. Please take the time to completely fill out your profile, esp. location, so that others can know more about you. We'd dearly love to know how logistics relates to contracting!
Or, have your customer (wink, wink) post his roof questions on DIYchatroom.com, our sister site designed for the Home Owner Do-it-yourselfer. Knowledgeable contractors frequent that site and provide valuable insights for DIY projects. [But they don't answer span questions there either...it's that darn liability issue gettin' in the way of everything] And by the way, Quote:
