Kimberly here are some basic tips that you may or may not have already but I will repeat them to reinforce there importances.

1. have a good attorney on standby
2. have a good accountant.
3 Make sure your incorporated
4. Have a good estimating program in place
5. Have a good contract, which should be reviewed by the good attorney
6. Have a clearly define payment schedule in the contract and if you can get paid up front.
7. Write everything down and take pictures of everything. Always get change orders in writing.

8. Hire good honest guys or subs and pay them well and on time.
9. Get a good grip on your finances and cashflow
10. Advertise year round even when your busy.
11. Always try to meet your customers expectations and exceed them if you can
12. Never give anything away to your customers and push back politely if they want stuff for free.

That's a start its early I might think of somemore after the coffee kicks in

Re: Seeking A Mentor

As for the ribbing and the attitude - You gotta consider:

There are so few places left in the modern world where men can be men amongst themselves. Television, both the shows and the advertising, is a feminist wasteland. The white-collar workplace has become so feminized you can't fart without being charged with sexual harassment. Church is sooooo touchy-feely that it makes many young hot-blooded men squirm. Schools have been on a mission for twenty years now to make sure boys are kept under a thumb so as to make room for girls. The military's become little more than an affirmative-action program. Men's clubs were literally put under siege in the eighties because they were supposedly so evil, only to have women-only clubs for everything from exercise to stock market investing pop up in the nineties. And every fourth guy you meet lost his home and daily life with his kids to a grossly female-biased family law system somwehere.

The only things left are sports, cars, ****, and the trades.

So when little miss feminist-attitude shows up on the site ready to give orders to the kind of men who normally don't take orders from women, noone should be surprised when she gets the flack she deserves as the harbinger of the feminization of their last refuge.

Accept that fact and dealing with it will be a lot easier.

That's good stuff, are those your own words ? Don't forget we can't even golf at the club with our own kind, Tuesdays are women's day. I coach HS football, thank goodness that is still just for us, but we still need our female trainer, she rocks.
