Please don't tell me you are serious. A license for roofing, now I have seen it all.

Re: Ohio Roofing Lisence

Here in SC it is the same & has been for a few years now. Before one could get a specialty lisc for $50 no test required, just a letter from a Company stating you do have 1 year or more exp in a trade & you were good to go. Now it is a lisc of it's own, same as plumbing, elec, hvac, ect.
Even if you had the specialty lisc doing roofs for the past 10 or 20 years, you had to test to get your roofers Lisc. This is going to change more & more accross the country with all individual trades over the next 10 years, or so they say.
From what they claim is more to help make a company be more legit, have the needed ins as builders, hvac, Elect, plumbers, do.
When I firs got me notice form the state to ensure all subs hired have the new respective lisc or be liable for each hired, I called & spoke with one at the lisc board & that is what I was told.
So I dunno, I guess there is good & bad with everything, but for those that roof as well & better than any other, if not one who is or can do test easy, or don;t have the financial statements, they will be hurt the most, customers as well. Because most will be those that do not know a 3 tab from an arch.
IN the late 70's to 80's here in SC, when women began to dominate Real Estate, so many of the male realtors, took the test & became builders & began building homes. Some with knowledge as well as knew the difference in a trade charging $2 a sq ft & ones charging $4 per sq ft, have done well & learnt as they went along. Others, (more than not) that did not know he diff between 2 & 4 per sq ft, thought the ones charging the $4 per sqft, where trying to get rich of them, stayed with the $2 sq ft trades and built houses that most would be afraid to let their dogs live in.
But because thay were Lisc & insured, this made them liget....
Look at the other side of things though, it created so much work for us rebuilding their work.
