Nick The Newbie Here
Hello All.
I am a 31 year old remodeling contractor who got int o the biz by accident. After dropping out of HS I had many construction jobs in alot of different trades until i went to work for a friend remodeling house when I was 22.i stuck with it until he close shop and then went to work for a high end remodeling outfit and got lots of experience as a lead...They didnt pay very well though. So i put an add on Craigsloist for some side work on the weekends...i guess the market was really hot with real estate boom and evryone flipping houses and such cause I had to quit my job 2 weeks later.A few months after that I got licensed and bonded and now I ve been in business for 5 years. it was alot easier when I was new to being a businessman as well as a tradesman.Plus it was a whole different market then.I could post a cheesy add on CL and i would get like 20 calls.Well back then with my lack of estimating experience and lck of knowledge of business i bid jobs really low.I was a lowballer. Not on purpose but I hadnt hit my learning curve yet. Now several years later and Wiser I bid my jobs tight and am no longer a low bidder. Now i see every detail and estimate as such and it is so much harder to get work. The market is really tight right now but Im holding on for now.I love what I do for a living and dont know of any other way I could make the kind of living I do. Well thats enough for now. Thank You all. Nick |

Re: Nick The Newbie Here
Hi Nick,
It seems like we all underbid our jobs when we first start out. It's the nature of the business. We sharpen our teeth on the business end of things that way...by learning from our mistakes... Welcome aboard!
