A Newbie From The North
Hi All,
Just joined this site today and look forward to learning all I can about the Concrete Countertop business. I retired about 5 years ago - I was a Rotating Equipment Specialist Engineer at Stone & Webster - Canada. Since then I have started my own concrete countertop business and have since made 8 countertops. I am really interested in learning more about concrete technology and the applications to countertop, integral sinks, etc. I am really interested in learning about fiber optics in countertops - I presently know virtually nothing about it. Looking forward to getting involved in some of the threads. Richard |

Re: A Newbie From The North
Welcome, i agree with both guys above. Do a search in the masonary section for concrete countertops. Alot of info will pop up there along with pics and videos of their work. I am impressed and will be trying my own this winter in my basement, i will try to do my own bartop. A fella who works with me on occasion has done them before and they look good but nothing like 6strings or genes counter tops.

Re: A Newbie From The North
Thanks for the welcome and comments guys. I have already spent a little time looking at some of the posts on concrete countertops. 6string's Bar Top and fiber optics are awesome.
Woodchuck - are you thinking to do your bar top in place or in a mold? I am amazed that 6string is able to get his poured in place countertops so flat and smooth. Thanks again. Richard |

Re: A Newbie From The North
This is a very friendly site, I'm really glad that I stumbled onto it.
Katoman - We had a pretty good blow here also, but nothing like what they had in Vaughn (Woodbridge, Canada's Wonderland, etc.). Must have been pretty exciting to drive through. I enjoy summer storms but that was a little over the top. ![]() Woodchuck - Hope you guys are pretty strong. If your 16' long bar top is about 2' wide, it will weigh in at about 800#'s (based on 2" thick concrete). Figure about 25# /sq.ft. for 2" thick and about 18# for 1 1/2" thick. If it's like my experience, you will carry about 50% of the load and the other 3 guys will handle the rest. Mike - Thanks for the welcome. |
