Evening ladies and gentlemen,
My name is Mike, and I do mostly tile work and small bathroom remodels. My preference is, of course, new construction tile. But as we all know, those jobs have been a little sparse recently.
Started laying tile when I was about 14 helping my dad build his house. From then on, he had me head up all his tile projects (he was a remodeler). Didn't really get on my own till late 2007 but hit the ground running from then. I've done about 10 new constructs and countless backsplashes and updated flooring.
My work schedule is about as busy as most newer contractors, work a few weeks, have a week off, work for a month, 2 weeks off, rinse and repeat. But that is actually a good thing for me. Since 2002 until the end of this past summer, I've been putting myself through college. Just finished up with my Masters in Economics at UNCC and am now looking at a lot of free time. I'm 26 years old, but am still weighing the options of getting a desk job (ugh!) that is in line with my education, or trying to go the route of a job that allows me to be in the field a bit more.
For now, and until that decision is made, I am going to continue what I love to do; work on houses. As mentioned, I mostly set tile and do minor renovation in Salisbury, NC. I've recently relocated to Charlotte, NC and have been trying to get my foot into the larger (and more competitive) market down here. Any advice on a good way to go about that would be much appreciated.
Thanks for allowing me to be a part of this great forum, and I'll see you all in the threads.
