I want to get a contractors license and I'm curious what I need to know.

I want it for doing IT work, home theater, networking etc

I hear that I need a C7 Contractors license and contractors insurance. Where is a good place where I can study for the test and what insurance companies cover contractors insurance. I live in California.

Hi just google it and You'll find some schools near by, it takes a few months to get the appt. for Your test son the sooner You start the better, the test is actually kind of easy, and as for insurance goes You won't need till You become licensed, most schools may be able to help on that. Good Luck

Hey just thought I'd let you now some info that might help. First check the web. I'd search through the diffrent state depts. that regulate contracors in your state. I'M in Tennessee and the state dept. of commerce and insurance is who regulates contractors here. As Far As insurance goes get in the phone book and call as many agents as you can. You will find that insurance is just like selling used cars. I carry General liability insurance in the amount of $1,000,000.00 and a surety bond. If you have any employees you may need to have workers comp. That is very expensive. Do some checking and I'm sure you'll get the correct answeres. The contractors board here in TN. Was very helpful to me and I found the processess pretty straighforword. Good Luck and keep trying.
