Re: "New Member"

Hello, Jeremy...and all the rest. I'm a new member as well. Just signed up, after finding y'all through "google".

I'm twice-retired, (US Army, 1985 and Publishing/Advertising Executive, 2007).

I'm just starting my "third career" as an Independent Residential Tradesman, (fancy-talk for handyman). I have acquired all the necessary skills over the years, (Carpentry, AC & DC installation and repair, appliance and electronics installation, painting, deck & small building construction and etc).

It amazes me that I'm getting paid pretty well for something that I used to do for free....and enjoy as a bonus!

I'm not exactly sure how the forums and threads work, but I have a quick question for anyone who might me more experienced with "painting estimates".

My neighbor, (who has extensively borrowed my tools and skills over the years), is selling his home.

He asked me for a quote to paint approximately 750 SF of ceiling. It's in very good shape and might get by with only one coat, (NOT using cheap paint).

It'll require very little crack repair and some limited water stain coverage. I'm providing the KILZ, he'll buy the paint and will also move and cover his furniture.

I told him that I'd do it for $500 USD. I'm also covering an unused AC outlet in his kitchen pass-through, ($20 bucks for knowing what NOT to touch).

Was this quote appropriate for the requested paint work in this, (Atlanta), area? I won the job, but am curious, since I don't get that much paint work.

Looking forward to a daily visit to this great website. Warmest regards...The SARGE! (The large typeface is for old farts like me).

What a coincidence! Anyone OUR age who's NOT a JB fan is a loser! We ALL want to retire in Margaritaville!

Newnan is about 65 miles southeast from my home base, (Snellville).

Business here is slowing down over the holiday season. I'll get LOTS of call after, though. All those daddies who just can't put the toys and gym sets together...
