New Carpentry

Hey Everyone, my name is Chris and I am a carpentry student at North Bennet Street School in Boston, Mass. I just signed up for this site so I could learn from professionals and ask questions about the business before I finish school in the spring and have to find a job. I'm hoping to learn exactly what contractors look for when they are hiring workers and apprentices. What can I do to make myself stand out in the crowd of others looking for the same job? What can I do to get ahead? What do you look for? Any pointers you guys can give me are really appreciated. Thanks in advance,
Chris

Re: New Carpentry

Welcome Chris
What I look for - honesty, good work ethic, willingness & a desire to learn

Back to honesty - Trade = carpentry, I don't think so - try student & I doubt you own the company listed (I know you don't work for them - as you stated about finding a job in Spring)

Never try to fluff up your knowledge, abilities, or yourself - Trust me most bosses will find out quick, fire your butt & tell others

Re: New Carpentry

I have worked as a carpentry before and that is the trade I'm studying, so I figured it would be good to list that as my trade. Anr the reason I listed Cavaliericarpentry is because that is the email I used to sign up for them site, and it's the email I use to conduct any business when I do side jobs. Thanks for the advice though
