Loneframer

Hey,whats up? I'm a new member and am really enjoying the site. I'm glad to see that there are so many contractors with great stories to tell. I have been a framer for about 25 years, but also have been lucky enough to learn more trades along the way. I have experience in asphalt roofing, siding of all types, interior trimwork, kitchen cabinet installation, and in the past few years have done alot of work with vinyl trimboards and composite decking. The project I'm on now is all steel framing with poured concrete floors and radiant heat. The exterior is cedar shake siding with t&g cedar soffits and all vinyl trimboards. I'm looking forward to trading stories and maybe a few friendly insults.

How'd you get the Jersey sand out of your shoes?
Is there much framing going on out there? Things could definitely be better here! Staying busy with custom home right now.

Re: Loneframer

Not much going on here in ohio. Been a framer for 28 years. In business for the past 15. Doing remodeling lately. Anything I can get. Just finished a 40k kitchen remodel. Used to hate remodeling, but I'm learning to like it, It's work. Went to wildwood where my dad lives 3 years ago to check out the work scene, but it's dominated by the immigrants. Theres a BIG difference in the cost of living between here and jersey. 40k kitchen here is a good job. Granite counter tops ect. Allways wanted to move back there but its not in the cards right now.

Yeah, I did a remodel on Park Blvd. in Wildwood a couple years ago, but the immigrant problem is throughout N.J. I had a crew of four good framers and stayed busy with a few loyal G.C.s. Now I'm the loneframer, staying busy with one loyal G.C. working with his crew, doing all phases of carpentry. Possibly will be doing project management on a 120 unit 55 and older private community. Fingers are crossed. It's funny how the things you dislike become your lifeline sometimes. There is a life lesson to be learned there for sure.

That typically applies to North Jersey/ coastal areas, but I get the humor.
Seriously though, I'm halfway between Philly and Ocean City.
