I Need A Perfect Arch And I Dont Have The Room

quick question does anyone know how to get a perfect arch with out using a nail a tape and scribing it on a sheet of plywood ...i dont have the room for this. i did the math and i would have to be like 50 some odd feet away from the top of the arch to scribe an arch that is 16 feet wide and only drops 6 inches from the center to the side

Newnoise, you're looking for a circular arch or elliptical? Or some other shape?

Circular, go outside and draw it on two pieces of ply with your string.

Elliptical, you'll need to do a bit of research on how to build the appropriate jig. Basically it's a "T"-shaped (or "X" for the full ellipse, not a 1/2) jig with two sliding connections attached to a wand that holds your pencil (or router). Google "ellipse jig" and you'll get the idea.

Other shapes, cut some thin stock and bend it to the shape you like then mirror it for the other side.

If you are in the field try putting 2-1" pvc pipes together (not glued) on each end of the 16 ' set the center on your 6" centerline and trace it.
