Hi, I,m New

Hi. I,m new to this forum,as of today, 12-03-2007. My user name is Rickster. Been around the paint "game" 20 years, but I like drywall better. I finish, do some patching, texturing, skimming walls, and skip trowel. I am from the Pacific Northwest, but 3 weeks ago I was SHANGHAIED (meaning against my will) to Texas. I am located in central Texas, in the middle of nowhere, (100 miles from Austin & almost 200 miles from San Antonio). I'm looking for work. So far nothing! Enough of that! Just before my departure, I was hooking up with a guy that wanted me to be his texture guy. He was going to get a Graco texture rig, but upon checking it out I found out that it needed a compressor to go with it. He didn't want to go that way, and decided to get a trailer mounted rig instead. I've never pulled a trailer rig, and have only seen one in action once. I wasn't sure I could handle it all. Any advice, information you all can relay to me about trailermounted texture rigs, what's the best kind, towability, tricks on spraying with them, cleaning & maintenance, what brand, or kind is best, pro's & con's etc. Any and all info you guys could give me would be a GREAT help, and greatly appreciated. Any job info also would be greatly appreciated, also. THANKS!!

I wasn't shanghaied, but whatever is opposite of that...last summer I moved from Houston (Spring) to the Pacific NW - Lynden.

Glad to have another "Texan" on the site - even if you weren't born there (I'm guessing) it'll grow on you.

Hiya, Rickster

I was also "shanghaied", or "bamboozled" into living in Texas for a brief time. No place for a Yankee like me. I lasted about 5 months, and bought a bus ticket home.

As for your question, I don't freakin' know nuttin'.

Try posting it in the paint section or the equipment section of the forum, and you should get some help.

Welcome Rickster!

Sorry to hear you were shanghaied, but at least the universe is now even again now that wallmaxx move to the Pacific Northwest to fill your void.

I too would like to hear the story of how you got shanghaied, especially to the "middle of nowhere" Texas!

What type and size of texture jobs are you planning? The guys I know that do texture use the Graco Mark IV or Mark V for spraying their materials. I have one of the cheaper Goldblatt texture sprayers, it's basically the hopper/gun and an HVLP type compressor unit. (Goldblatt Model 15-300 M5) I use it mostly for popcorn type ceilings and knockdown finishes, as well as using it to spray a skim coat a couple of times.
