Hi All From Ireland


hi all
I have been on the site for the last few weeks and its a very good site great to see how you guys do things tips and so on.As i said im from ireland and carpenter by trade but have been working for myself for the last 3 and 1/2 years as building contractor.il post some pics of what i do and how we do things in ireland.So thats me and hope to get to know ye better

Welcome!
My great-grandfather came over from Kinsale to NYC in 1892. I've been to Ireland once, planned on staying a week, but ended up staying for three instead. I've never felt so much at home in another country.
I met a few carpenters while I was there, in Kinsale actually. They complained that the quality of construction grade framing stock was terrible and expensive. Also, I saw a lot of concrete work over there, seemed like concrete as an alternative to stick framing is common.
Send some photos! I miss the Emerald Isle of my ancestors. !

My dad's familt is from Roscommon....I think dad was born in Brooklyn?

Mom is fresh off the boat [circa 1950 ish] from Caven.

thanks for the replys.
bodger : ireland has a habit of sucking you in.

yeah block build is the main type of build but we have done a few timber frame.they are made off site they come to site on a lorry and lifted in with a crane.

il start a thread with pics of how we do things.

Id love to go to the US for a year or so to learn the way ye do timber frame.

The economy is not great as we are in a recession.im ok at the moment touch wood with work till april next year and hope to have another house or two to do by then.
