Hello In West Chicago Suburbs
Hello everyone,
My name is Marty, my company is Kamis Renovation. I'm located in St. Charles, IL and have been in business for myself 4 years now. After following a few of the posted topics, I was impressed with the no-nonsense discussion and was also relieved to see that there are many other contractors with the same problems I have (I'm doing less wrong than I thought!). I do not have a formal background in construction, I was actually a Tool & Die worker for 7 years prior to going out on my own. My previous work experience was all about details, accuracy, problem solving, and a keen understanding of how things work (and how to build them that way). I also learned a great deal about reading prints and drawing in Autocad. All of my previous work experience translates quite well into the remodeling business. Most of my customers appreciate my attention to details, and consideration for their personal property. When I initially started out, I had no contacts with anyone in the trades, so I mainly got work through friends of the family and so forth. While I used to do whatever I could get my hands on, I've since realized that my main strengths are bathroom remodels and electrical work. I now have a wide range of referral based customers. I took on my biggest project last year when my wife and I decided to build a 1600 s.f. addition on our house (it actually did a great job of hiding the original house too). This year I am finishing a 3 story octagonal tower on the side which encloses a winder staircase and a hidden upper level room. I have designed and built it on my own as a challenge for myself, and as an example to my customers of what I can do. I still have a lot to learn regarding the building trades, mainly in the business and administrative end of things. I've yet to meet someone that I haven't learned something from, so meeting all of you will certainly be a great education! I hope to get a chance to be involved on this site in discussions and throwing in new ideas as well. Thanks for having me! Marty Kamis Kamis Renovation Co. |

Re: Hello In West Chicago Suburbs
I did a big job in StCharles back in 1980. Left WestChicago for Albuquerque in '82 and never looked back. Good luck to you.
