Hello From Houston!
I just wanted to say "Hi" and introduce myself. I am Christy and I have been around and in the construction industry since I was a kiddo. Currently, I am an estimator for a commercial flooring company in Houston. We do mostly new construction for multi family housing but have recently started doing some rehab jobs also. Since my formal education is in Marketing... the owner has turned that over to me to take care of in my "spare time!"
![]() I grew up with the family roofing and sheet metal companies, worked forever in advertising and then two years construction fencing/erosion control. Now... it is flooring (and kitchen/bath granite and tile). This is still a little new to me... so I am looking forward to learning as much as I can from ya'll!!

Re: Hello From Houston!
Welcome.
I used to live on Rayford road N. Spring. We just moved to 4 miles south of Canada, in Washington State. Good to have as many Texans involved in this site as possible. mike |

Re: Hello From Houston!
I am up in Tomball... about 4 miles from Spring! But 4 miles from Canada??? Good Grief! We are having a cold front come through here at the moment and it is a freezing 52 degrees! (and raining of course!) I can't imagine how cold it is there!

Re: Hello From Houston!
33 degrees. Everything above 3000 ft is new snow. Mt Baker has snow all year round. Texas may be God's country...but in the summer months...this place is perfect.

Re: Hello From Houston!
LOL! You mean the 5000 degrees (or at least what feels like 5000 degrees) is a little too warm for ya?
I noticed you are an Aggie (hey I got a joke for you... LOL!) Yesterday was a fun day around here... I have one nephew that goes to UT and one at A&M.... watching those two go at it was more fun than watching the game! |

Welcome Christy.
I'm in SW Houston, and I agree about the weather. Last week it was almost 80 (and will be next week) but this weekend really bites it. I actually had to turn the heater on and couldn't wear shorts today. Brian Phillips |

Re: Hello From Houston!
Thanks for the welcome Brian! It is completely gross out there today... what cracks me up though, I was down by Willowbrook Mall a little while ago and the place is jam packed! 1960 has some standing water... but those guerrilla shoppers are still at it! LOL
Hey, the house that you have on the front page of your web site. Is it in the heights? Very pretty!! My great grandmother lived off of 34th and my aunt off of Aurora... both houses were bought and have been completely redone and they are gorgous.... I love what is being done done there! |

Re: Hello From Houston!
Sure,a female introduces herself and she gets more welcomes than any other newbie on this site.
Boys will be boys. Anyways, welcome Christy. I spent a little time in Houston back in the late 70's.About 2 months. I lived over on Airport Rd.Woke up one morning to find the battery stolen out of my truck, along with several other people in the complex.Things were a little crazy then. Houston was growing by about 2000 people/week and a lot of them were unemployed. I decided to move back down to Galveston, and get away from the crowds and traffic jams.I sure things are better now. God luck with your new "spare time" project. |

Re: Hello From Houston!
Thanks for the welcome JMT! Another Houston boy!
Now Oldfrt... being a girl in a male dominated industry has it's benefits!!! Airport Rd. is probably worse now than back in the 70's! Anywhere near Airport and Telephone road is completely scary! Now they wouldn't wait until you were parked somewhere to steal your battery... slow down for a yellow light and your car is stripped before you come to a complete stop! ![]() Galveston isn't much better these days but at least there is some decent fishing down there!! As far as my spare time... HA! Mostly what I will be doing is the networking stuff... the owner is really involved in HAA, Rodeo, etc... Just basicly being at, volunteering for and hosting events! LOL Hard work ya know! ![]() Although... I am working on the graphics and copy for a couple of ads that we are doing in some local trade magazines. So it isn't all fun and games! Actually... if there are any designers reading... I have been working half the day trying to get measurements and some carpet cuts off of the plans for an apartment rehab we are doing ... good grief people... could you put more nooks and crannies in these places??? You're making me blind! LOL!

Maybe some benefits, but by just reading your responses here,I don't think that matters. You are truly a reflection of most of the people I met in Texas: Confident, friendly, aggressive, responsive and full of life.Go get um girl! Try posting a topic in the flooring section on measuring for sq./ft for a little advice from seasoned installers. |
