Hello From Flooring Chick

Hi all.

I just want to introduce myself. I am a 47 year old female from Canada.

When my kids were little and I was in my late 20's I stayed home and one day woke up thinking I should get a job as I couldn't put up with home daycare kids anymore.

I had some interior design courses under my belt and a local flooring place was looking for a "girl" instead of the status quo guy selling flooring to women.

Well, I applied and knew the owner and the rest is history. I have loved and hated this business at the same time, but I tend to love it more.

I was the only women selling flooring in the City and had to prove my worth, but I have done it and have the clientele to show for it.

So I have had a happy and content career and am still going. I thank my old boss everyday for giving me the chance. When I applied for this one job, he had received 147 applications!

It's done me well, although maybe being a realtor would emcompass the same hours for more money.

Anyway, I am glad to hop on board. Nice to meet you all.

Welcome. We need more flooring people here, so we can rule over these 'lesser' trades...

Welcome Ms Flooring.

I find the word Chick to be sexist and refuse to use it

Thanks all for the welcomes. How can a soft, fluffy little creature be sexist?

I was trying to find something between FlooringWoman and Flooring girl.

Welcome. Not so sure about the realtor thing right now, flooring may be your better choice in this economy. Welcome to the site.

Re: Hello From Flooring Chick

Great story on your career. I had 3 years in the tile business up until last year. Now I have a start-up company (father/son) offering me a job as commission sales here in N Carolina. Looking to me to bring in residential revenue.

Worried about a) timing in this economy and b) my lack of experience. But I can sell and cold call.

Would you take the chance or is the economy so bad there just isn't much work out there?

Thanks,
Tom

Welcome. I bet as soon as Mickey sees you, he will have something, well, 'unusual' to say. I see you have already met the weasil, I mean mouse, I mean chipmunk, Rory. Watch out for him, he likes to do the gerbil thing.

Where in Canada? You need to put your location in your profile. It's the law. That way we know what country to pick on.

Welcome.

I'm curious to know more about your background. Do you work in showroom sales? Direct to HO, contractors or both?

It sounds like you're with a company that's been around awhile. Do you have your own installers or subs?

Glad to have your POV added to the mix.

(And don't forget to add your location to your profile.)
