Hello Again

I didn't realize their was introduction thread or all these other forums available. My 1st post was in the exc. forum & was a pricing question. What a noob. Here goes the 2nd attempt.

My name is Chuck. I've lurked on these boards for 9 months and learned some good stuff. I'm 38 and am co-owner of excavation company with my father. He started in the business 32 yrs ago doing driveways, sealing foundations, raking & seeding lawns. Only piece of equip. was a 8 yd dump truck. As a kid I went to work with him in the summer and started thinking of construction as a career when I was about 15. He always told me I should get a different job because I had oppurtunites he never had. I went to business school for 2 yrs. & realized I didn't want to be stuck in a cubicle all day. Got a 2 yr. construction tech. degree & never looked back. We now are a small exc. company does all types of work. My favorite is installing roads for new sub-divisions. I consider my self pretty old school since I grew up working with all oldtimers who wouldn't look at what was tough about a job. They would just get it done. The last few years I can understand why my father tried to steer me away from construction. It's tough working all day then pricing jobs (if you're lucky) & all the paperwork.
I wouldn't do it differently. Construction is in my blood. Looking forward to sticking around and learning more things. Sorry about the 1st post. Luckily, the guys went pretty easy on me.

Chuck

Re: Hello Again

Welcome to CT - its a roll of the dice gentlemen, more than likely the pricing poster will get smacked around a few times, if they start beating on their chest, well that's when the real fun starts, but occasionally if all the planets align & someone is feeling really nice they may get a legit answer that may or may not work in their area.

Re: Hello Again

Welcome to the forum. Thanks for the detailed introduction. It's good to hear that you were able to find a job that you are passionate about and at the same time be able to work with your father.
