Great Site, New Member

I just started my business as a remodeling contractor. This looks like a great site. My first questions would be, "what is a good way to advertise" I have an existing customer base but would like to expand that base. There are several options but they (newspapers, radio, etc.) will tell you how great the return is just to get your money. Any ideas????

fci , I just started out myself over a year ago and the only ads I have are in the local paper and the small standard ad that comes with your phone listing other than that its a word of mouth and i would say most of my referrals are word of mouth . The paper runs me $99.00 for 3 months the phone book -0- dollars thats the one that comes with your service, other wise they told me its about $110.00 a month.

word of mouth is key

Whatever you do, DO NOT advertise on craigslist...it's great to buy things, but not for business purposes

Your name in the phone book is also a great asset and usually very affordable

good luck--

Welcome to the site. Great you found us.

I'd suggest creating a new thread in the sales and marketing forum asking this question so more people will see it. Also, use the green search bar above to search the forum for answers.

All that said I will say that effective advertising is totally different depending on the area you live in. For some local newspapers work. For others val-pak or servicemagic.com. It takes a lot of trail and error.

I've had a few people say that mail box brochures work well. Any coments on that? I was also wondering about door to door. A personal touch that gives the customer the chance to meet the contractor face to face instead of looking in the phone book and taking a gamble.

Join a networking group in your community, and talk to your suppliers and tell them the truth about what you're looking to do... The better you do, the better they do... It'll come full circle with the word of mouth system in no time.
