Another Newby From Northern California
Hi -
Not sure how I found the forum - search for something on Google. I put a link on my site. I am a brand new union commercial carpenter's apprentice in San Rafael, CA which is just north of San Francisco. I am a 50 year old female so that makes the whole thing intimidating. I worked on computers for years, but when the economy went a few years ago, ended that career. Been out for the past 4 years. Building things has been my hobby all my life, but never thought I could be a carpenter as a career. I really love it so far, but it is tough to go out to a site and try to compete with the 20 year old men. I've worked as an auto mechanic, telephone equipment installer, computer tech so I've usually done men's work, but none quite as physical as carpentry. I want to do all of it, framing, forms, finish (not sure about bridge work). I also ride sport bike.

Re: Another Newby From Northern California
thanks
I'm not intimidated on the forum. It's when I walk across the construction site to the trailer and tell them that I want to work for them as an apprentice when they probably expect me to be delivering fresh baked cookies
