Wasn't that what I was supposed to do? I mean I didn't know how to introduce myself but to state what we do.

Well I don't know about these other clowns here but I for one would like to know your favorite color, favorite beer, or perhaps your philosohpy on the benefits of wearing a fur coat.

I think we would all like to know about YOU and what YOU do as a professional in the construction industry.

Do you have a name? Or are you just going to use the royal "we"?

Andy.

And by the way, welcome to the forum.

Welcome to CT. You would have to admit however that your first post sounded like an advertisement more than anything. Hence the suspicion by our posters.

We await your contributions to this site and are ready to reciprocate.

Honestly I did not mean to make it look like an advertisement. I merely stated what makes my company different from what others do here to show that I am not here to compete, but to learn and contribute what I know. I will definitely do my best to contribute in many ways to this website. My name is Joe and I have been doing this kind of work for many years and yes I am in a wheelchair and have been since birth.

I really appreciate those of you who have welcomed me so nicely.

Just having some jobsite humor with ya.......and unlike a lot of people you were able to take a little jabbing. It's nice to have another member with thick skin, a sence of humor, and a ton of experience.

I have done a lot of ADA plumbing in hospitals etc but not any more. I look forward to chatting.

With that said....WELCOME TO THE FORUM!!!!!

why did you stop doing ADA type of work? Was it because of the LAG in payment?

Naa, I used to only hospitals etc, now I do residential service so I just don't have the call for it.

I do think however the ADA rules are perfect for any older couple. I put in a TON of ADA toilets just because people like them.

I even like roll-in ADA showers, they make sense for everybody. I once read about tripping accidents in bathtubs and showers. I can't recall the actual numbers but I remember my jaw dropping when I found out how many people get hurt/paralized by tripping over tubs and having nothing to hold on to.

Quick story.

I ran a Lowes home improv center and on the day it was done and it became public domain 3 old ladies walked right in and measured every stall, toilet, lav and grab bar in the joint.

I was told by Mortenson they were looking to see if they could sue for money. I wanted to drop kick them because my crew worked there a$$ off making the bathrooms on the money for ADA.

Re: AESTHETICALLY DESIGNED ACCESSIBILITY Contractors & Consultants

First, welcome to CT Joe.

I deal with ADA a lot on public projects. I am a big believer in accessibility, and work hard to follow all the ADA regs.

It seems to me that enforcement needs to be more consistent. Some areas it never comes up with the codes guys, (usually the smaller municipalities), other areas, like Metro Nashville, have inspectors dedicated to ADA only. These guys can be a real PITA and will bust you for 1/8" 'cause they gotta justify their job.

It seems that what it takes is a municipality getting sued by some slick class action lawyer or some ladies like Mike described, to decide it is worthwhile to enforce ADA, and then they go overboard.

I've been busted by that 1/8" you speek of.....man what a shi#@% feeling that is. Once I made that mistake it never happened again.

But rules are rules so it's ok. In the Milwaukee area it has to be perfect no if ands or butts about it.

ADA rule are actually petty interesting to read. It's funny how on every jobsite so many people are always asking over and over what the rules are.

Even on the highly engineered drawings when I used to plumb hospitals ADA mistakes happend all the time. I always went through every number to verify. Some of the numbers I had to hit were very close especially on a gang of wall hung water closets, the partition people seem to follow there own set of rules........arg!! I don't miss that part at all.

I should be a rule that water closets and toilet partitions are supplied and installed by the same sub. Problem is do you want plumbers doing carpentry or carpenters doing plumbing?

Re: AESTHETICALLY DESIGNED ACCESSIBILITY Contractors & Consultants

Let's get one thing straight! I DO NOT WANT TO DO CARPENTRY!!!!

I have everything it takes to try and not screw up the plumbing.

You have a good point however. It's always a problem on big projects and I think we should just blame the masons. That way we can both be in the clear.

we have all been terrorized with these 1/8 " incidences and I is a person with a disability feel that it is ridiculous. 1/8 of an inch will not make any difference to anyone. Sometimes if you give someone a rope they think they are a cowboy, what I am saying is give someone a little authority and they believe they rule the world. The rules for ADA need to be used as a guideline, because every individual has their own needs and ADA should be modified and adapted to suit the needs of the individuals that use the equipment. This is just my opinion, but what do I know, I have only been in a wheelchair for 46 years and have been doing this type of work for over 25 years LOL

Exactly. We do a lot of schools, and we always wrestle with heights as relates to little kids / ADA. Yeah a 34" countertop height is right for most adults in a wheel chair, but what about a 5,6,7 year old in a wheel chair. Same thing with toilet heights. Luckily, these are the architects call, and we can write an RFI and get his directive in writing, then we are off the hook (unless the ADA nazi nails us for that 1/8)
