Re: What Kind Of Truck Do You Drive?

The payload in my 2500 burban is almost 3000lbs, swear to be the truth, it is like 5959 dry and 8950 gvw or what ever those gv things are. You cannot fit a sheet of dry wall or ply in the back of an excursion they only measure like 46" between wheel well trim, trust me I wanted one, but that made them worthless to me. Its not often that I load stuff like that in there, but every now and then (15 sheets ply 4 square shingles shut doors, also 36 sheets of dry wall on another occasion) I have an enclosed trailer but more often than not it is usually a mess. The Burban works great in the winters, I cant believe how many tools fit in that thing, and the dog and the kid and about 15 empty pop bottles.... I wont get into the portable dumster side of it. Plus she is a real tug boat.

We have two Chev. box trucks, two Chev. K1500 Silverado, one Chev. Crew cab, my Super cab F150, one F150 worktruck, one Ranger Super cab for my Project manager, and two sales cars. One of the sales cars is a 1973 Ford Mustang that I drive on nice days.

I was wishing I had a dump when I emptied my 3/4 ton of rock last weekend.

Warner,

I used 2003 stats to compare. A 2500 Suburban 2WD is listed at 2486 max cargo capacity. I always assume between myself and tools, 500 lbs. That leaves the 1 ton issue. Definitely not enough to carry a crap-load of tile. The Excursion is even less at 2184. However, the measurement between wheel wells is actually closer to 50".
Doesn't matter as I do like the positives behind having a large SUV but bottom-line is, it just won't work for me

F350 DRW with a cap it is.......and I'll start saving for my $200 fill ups!

Re: What Kind Of Truck Do You Drive?

Angus,

Hear ya on the 200.00 fill ups, ouch. Maybe the newer Excursions were wider but the ones I looked at measured under 48". I really dont miss a pick-up though, I thought maybe I would, but I am ok.

Along the same lines of thinking - The beauty or an Excursion of a Yukon is that it's like a pick-up with a permanent cap, but much better access thanks to the rear passenger doors. The thing is to NOT expect it to be every possible truck all in one.

Personally, I have a Ford Expedition for the same reason. The truck carries tools and equipment and small materials in the safe, dry, rear with the seats down. The I have a few different trailers for different applications. The small utility trailer for random stuff; the enclosed trailer for inclement weather; the dump trailer for large loads of materials like drywall and, of course, for hauling tear-out to the dump.

Then, as someone said earlier, when need be you can clean out the truck, flip the seats up, and, voila, seating for 7 without embarassing yourself in a minivan.

When the Expy's done, it'll be an Excursion next.

2008 Dodge Ram 1500 Quad Cab 4x4

This is my third Dodge - last one I bought with a 4.7 engine - never again!!

I tow a 14x7 enclosed trailer - can hardly feel it with the Hemi - really noticed it with the 4.7

Gas mileage - sucks!!!

All in all - love the truck!

Re: What Kind Of Truck Do You Drive?

I have a ford LCF dump bed with lumber racks and tool boxs on the rail and on the bottom , a f350 to drive around tools boxs and ladder racks and a EX they all have diesels . My Ex gets around 20 mpg pick ups get around 12 or so .My wife wont let me have the ex for work yet but it pulls a dump trailer and tool trailer real good .Im looking at a small green egg car that i could drive around and just put in my trailer and pull to the job then take the egg back and fourth and plug it in at work .I dont leave my town much.

I drive 98 Dodge 1500. Lousy gas mileage, but do not worry if it gets damaged on job site

Re: What Kind Of Truck Do You Drive?

Its called a work truck, you use it to work. I also have several trailers that I use mostley, but sometimes it needs to go in the back of the Suburban, or in his case Excursion.

What difference does it make? A truck is a tool. It's only value is as a workhorse. AND there is a BIG difference between what any vehicle is woth, and what we pay for them. Their only worth is in what they do for us.

I bought this new in 1991 and paid $2,500.

I think it's still worth the $2,500. I took the pic 3 weeks ago.
It's well used, but never abused.

That truck is older than 1991 unless you meant 1981?
Used to drive an 1985 3/4ton to plow snow it had about 1.2 zillion miles on it too. always overloaded.

the difference is you paid $2500 for a truck that looked like a work truck when it was new (and that truck is older than a 91). A excursion is pushing 50k new and is supposed to be a luxury truck not a work truck.Did they make wt models? i dont know. Used excursions however are cheap compared to new price.
