I just got a cheap bolt lock for the tailgate --lock it and then lock the cover--and it is secure....worked out great and only cost 5 bux.
they do make an aftermarket tailgate lock,but I think it's pricy,hope this helps

Wasn't so much worried about 600 lbs but like the saw or something good to know.
I don't see my fat ass on their( I don't weigh 600lbs

). Would probably have it open just didn't want a twig to land on it and boom!
The lock Bob linked to is under $100 and with the news clip saying theft is high and gates are about $800 on the low end to replace not that bad.
But your $5 idea might be route one depending on $$$$$
