As I've previously posted I'm looking at trucks and when I purchase I want to invest in something like this:

I have heard some have a rating of like 600lbs placed on top of them.

My application might be out of the ordinary but I intend to use one in conjunction with a tool box.

Most trucks I’ve seen for sale already have the above mount style. If I get one like that I would mount this up to the box (obviously). Store truck related tools etc. in it and have the covered area for construction tools and the such.

I would appreciate feedback on what brand is the best and clarification as to GM factory locking tailgates.

From what I heard GM doesn’t have locking tailgates and some “kit” can be bought to lock the cover to gate but not the gate itself.

that's the same brand I had on my dakota 5-6 yrs ago,good quality.It's not gonna support 6 hun lbs ,but a miter saw and other stuff it will be fine,
I just got a cheap bolt lock for the tailgate --lock it and then lock the cover--and it is secure....worked out great and only cost 5 bux.
they do make an aftermarket tailgate lock,but I think it's pricy,hope this helps

The cross box should be about 2'. So if you have an 8' box that leaves 6 feet of bed to cover. You can get the cover for a short box (6') to cover this area.

If you have a short box you'll only have about 4' of bed left after the crossbox. In that instance you're likely looking at having an upholstery shop custom make you a tonneau cover.

I like the thought of the electric lock locking when your door does!

Wasn't so much worried about 600 lbs but like the saw or something good to know.

I don't see my fat ass on their( I don't weigh 600lbs

). Would probably have it open just didn't want a twig to land on it and boom!

The lock Bob linked to is under $100 and with the news clip saying theft is high and gates are about $800 on the low end to replace not that bad.

But your $5 idea might be route one depending on $$$$$
