Cheers Katoman. It does almost look as if im sponserd by Makita. I used to use strictly Dewalt and Bosch in the UK until 2 years before i left and i bought the first LXT range on the market and since have never looked back. Great tools and have never let me down.

Re: Trailer: Customizing Ideas Needed. Long

Very clean set-up. Question is does it always stay that way? Mine looks like a bomb went off by the end of the week. Takes me hours to re-organize. How do those small bins work out in the front with bumps. Everything i have hanging in the front falls down on top of my front shelf so lately i just let it ride there. I need to take some time to re-organize and pull some weight from the tongue, it appears that the front crossmembers have started buckling under the v-nose. I will have to post new pics when i re-organize my trailer.

Re: Trailer: Customizing Ideas Needed. Long

Yep looks that way most of the time. At worst i will have a few tools and attacments ontop of the worktop but not very often. I dont really work in it but work out of it and take the tools into customers house or outside. The plastic trays have been very good upto yet and nothing falls out of them but most of the stuff in them is pretty low in the trays. That coupled with the trailers smooth ride and trucks smooth ride it dont really knock anything about. But i do sometimes forget to lock the draws and the dam things will be of the rails on the floor when i get back from some jobs have have to repair them. Getting used to not doing that now though.

Re: Trailer: Customizing Ideas Needed. Long

I finally re-organized my trailer last night, i had to build new shelves for the conduit so i could sperate it all. Now i know exactly what i have and in what size. Before i had to unload the whole mess just to get one peice from the bottom. I also removed alot of the tools and put them on the top shelf on the left. I dont know how many lbs this took off the nose but the truck is sitting higher. Now as long as there isnt too much top heavy weight i will be set. I still may have to do something with the end of the shelves to keep the conduit from sliding out but i will be towing it to a job here in a couple minutes so i will see how it rides. I also had to fix the suspension again this morning, i had one bolt fall out of the shackle on the right side this spring and now the left side has fallen out .

Looks good woodchuck. See how long ya can keep it like that for lol

Have an idea for ya conduit not sliding out. Get some aluminum c channel and mount one at the top of the conduit rack and one at the lower end and use a piece of flat ply slotted into the c channels to slide in and out.

Thanks, i was pondering on that idea last night but i was going to use wood. I was thinking of routering out the groove for a 1/4" ply to slide up and down but i like your idea of Aluminum better. No corrosion and wont break like the wood will, i am sure the wood would give out along the grain with too much stress. I drove it to a small job about 20 miles and it seems to tow well, nothing moved or slid around. As you know these trailers are not easy to keep clean, especially if your busy and you have no time to restock as you go. I end up with bags and boxes of new supplies all over the place and it takes me forever to find what i need. Thats why i had re-organize the conduit. I have had alot of jobs this summer requiring conduit and with it all mixed up i had no clue how much i had or what size. Every time i turned around i was buying bundles of conduit because i was unsure of what i had and didnt want to be shorted on the job. Now it is easier to keep inventory.

I know how it goes. Used to work out of a Ford transit and it was full of plumbing fittings from top to bottom and when in order it was great knowing what you did and didnt have it the trailer. As soon as the van got in a mess it made working twice as hard and jobs took longer because you wouldnt know what you did and didnt have in stock. Cant beat going to the trailer and knowing exactly where the thing is you need. Wouldnt ever wanna work out of a van or truck every again after owning a trailer.

Re: Trailer: Customizing Ideas Needed. Long

Thanks those of you who've taken time to post ideas and pics. Organization is probably my single weakest area. I'm ashamed for customers see inside my topper! While I don't have the funds yet for an enclosed trailer, many of these ideas can be utilized in my pickup topper and in my newly aquired workshop.
Anyway. Thanks!

As far as locks go, don't cheap out. Stick with quality. Bear in mind that if someone wants whats in your trailer, they will get through any lock.

Alarm set ups are great. They may get in, but they won't stick around for long.

having been burglarized in the not distant past... i got a pritty good idea of what works and what dosen... Works: Master locks, magnum series are a real good bet, interms of price you ger what you pay for. Trailer alarm, worked out a deal with a friend and was able to get an alarm system for each trailer that locks the brakes if they attempt to get it... paid just under tree fiddy for each. Master hockey puck locks, like what you see on the back of cube vans, cause unfortunately those 30 dollar master locks dont do **** if they cut the hasp that holds the lock to the trailer. DOSENT WORK: not backing trailers up close enought... easy way to solve problem back trailer up to permanet structure or another truck so that the rear doors cant open. Sure they could just cut there way in... but the object here is for them to roll up to your trailer... and go " this one lets go somewhere else". Using the hasps that come with your trailer, easiest thing in the world to cut with a pair of bolt cutters, if your trailer has doors and no ramp or a side door, put a dead man into the floor that attaches to the door, and for the guys that run arround in box trucks, that westing hatch that "locks" your expensive equipment away... cut in 5 minutes with a big pair of bolt cutters... had a master lock on it and they said " this lets just cut the hatch. Just goes to show ya even when you think youve done everything right... they throw a curve ball at ya

Re: Trailer: Customizing Ideas Needed. Long

I wanna play I had this trailer built in 03. the trailer was built by Santek trailers in SoCal. Its 8'x18' all tube frame 2' on center with tandem 3500lb axles. It is wired with 110 outlets inside and out, 2 big ass flood lights on each side (outside) Slick wall aluminum exterior sided. the walls and ceiling are insulated with foam and paneling. I had it pre wired for AC and put 3 vent in the roof (one for AC) Also did some fluorescent interior lights. I had them build a compartment in the floor for 2 spare tires. There are 8 heavy duty d rings in the floor that are welded to the frame and lighter duty rings littered on the walls. It was an expensive build but worth every penny, every time I went to the shop during the build I found myself walking out a grand lighter 7 years later and the only issues have been a little weather stripping and new roof vents. Its primary function is for finish carpentry hence the 18' to transport casing. The best money spent was on the electric tongue jack, great feature if you are unhooking every day. In the beginning it was great to work out of (small residential jobs) lasting a few days. As things progressed and the jobs got larger, I now have materials delivered and the trailer doesn't leave the yard much. I bought a cargo van a while back and it is a lot more convenient to work out of, but I still love my trailer for certain tasks.

See above, thats an awesome floor, but other suggestions, use the garage type epoxy or rubber flooring or sheet vinyl. If you have a big budget, go with aluminum diamond plate.

BC Constr.:
How do you supply power to the trailer. I love the charger setup and some other electrical in the trailer. Is this supplied only when plugged in on site?
I am a novice to finish a trailer. About to get started on my first one.

Thanks

Currently the system is powered by mains when plugged into customers houses. I did consider makeing it run fron an inverter but i never work on sites without power anymore.

The trailer has a power port on the front with a flap you lift up and plug an extension cable into then it is wired insdie the trailer for lighting and sockets. I added a few more so that i could power my compressor and tools if i need to work from trailer.
