Re: Trailer: Customizing Ideas Needed. Long

Here are some updated pics of some progress...very little progress but it seems there aren't enough hours in a day. Most of the various wooden pieces are just from scrap around the shop. Purpleheart, walnut, maple, cypress, etc. Kind of adds some interesting character and allows me to show a customer different species of wood.
Anyway...
This is one of the racks for tools and screwdrivers

Another shot with storage cabinets further down...

This is on the right side as you enter from the rear. The wrenches are held in place with both a dowel at the top and a 1/4" rare earth magnet embedded in the ply backer. These are strong magnets and the stuff doesn't rattle around at all. The other side has a mating. open cabinet that has paint brush storage. I forgot to get a picture of that but it holds about 24 various sized brushes, hung vertically.

This will be the desk area. It will get a fold down writing area (done but not installed) and will have an area for a remote printer. The brown gizmo is a converter to go from 110 volts to 12. The entire trailer is getting wired for both ac and dc. The 2 batteries will be housed at the bottom compartment and it is vented to the outside.

Next to the wrenches is a cabinet that has both sides folding into itself. Misc storage for parts/nuts/bolts, etc.

I'm probably the only one that likes the paint choices of red, black and grey but it is lively.
Lots more work to do and I'll keep you posted.

I think you're looking at the converter.
The bottom cabinets sit about 10" above the floor. An area underneath the left set will be insulated and used for paint and caulk storage . There are 2 compartments which will have a light bulb in each to keep the caulk from freezing. (I hope)

Im a framer by trade so my trailer is not as "polished" as some of the others here, but i find it to be pretty functional. Its not finished yet but its a work in progress, every time i climb into my 7' x 14' v-nose i think of another modification, next im onto electrical and alarms (every time im on youtube and see some 14 yr. old kid pick a $40 master lock in 5 sec. I run to the window to check my $20,000 investment.) note to self...alarm, dog, gun ...in that order. any input from you guys on alarms would be helpful, thanks

Keep us posted on what you will be using to keep all the small plastic drawers close on those storage bins in the last pic. I use the same bins and they work great but the open right up the first 100' its towed down the road. I keep tool boxes in front of mine for now, i have thought of installing thin paneling on a hinge that will swing up in front of them and then hasp it to the top of the bin so the drawers cant slide out. The magnet idea is great for the steel items, that shouldkeep them in place.

Re: Trailer: Customizing Ideas Needed. Long

Hi woodchuck...
The cabinet has wings on both sides (you can see the left one in the pic) that hinge closed into the center of the main body. There are plexi fronts to small shelves on those wings. This will alleviate "most" of the drawers from opening. Those that still do will get a small (1/8") rare eartch magnet epoxied in place with a small washer glued to the plastic case back behind the drawer.
As soon as I got this all together, I figured that was going to be a problem.

Re: Trailer: Customizing Ideas Needed. Long

Dane,
The door locks are engaged by an electrical signal from the alarm control box. The control box gets its signal from a key switch and/or key fob. Both are included.
Not sure about your question if the video is possible. The system does flash the lights, sound a siren, and lock the electric brakes. The Trailer Dog and ProTec systems do these as well, but nobody has the locks like LockIin.
I am not sure about dealers in Canada, but we do ship there on a regular basis. The only issue is that this is a large and heavy package, so taxes would be bad. I can find out about Canadian dealers for you, give me till Monday.

Just watched the video, WOW.

Re: Trailer: Customizing Ideas Needed. Long

Hey Vrooman, nice trailer. I'm from Lorette, MB and I'm leaning towards getting an Agassiz, can I ask you a few questions about it?

1. Does it get hot in there being that it's black?
2. Does it get dirty easily being that it's black?
3. How do you feel about the ramp door? Do you feel that you have a harder time parking since you need to leave extra room to open the door?
4. Do you care to share what you paid for it?

Thanks man.

Re: Trailer: Customizing Ideas Needed. Long

Dane,
talked to LockIn last night, and there are no dealers in Canada. Once we get them in stock, I can ship to you. Get with me later next week if interested.

Ahhh, i see the hinges now. I have the smaller bins like those and for now i keep tool boxes and other items in front of them to keep them closed. I have planned on putting in a plexy-glass cover with hinges on the bottom so the glass would fold up in front of the bins and i was going to latch the glass to the top of the bin with velcro. I just redid some of the shelving in my trailer so i could get rid of all the tool cases in favor of more room for supplies. I cant see carrying a big case just for a drill and a saw or two. I will post some pics here soon.

Re: Trailer: Customizing Ideas Needed. Long

I didnt bother pulling the tool boxes and other items to show the bins but they are behind the orange tool boxes. I will post more pics when i get all the shelving done and all the crap put away. I installed another shelf on the top right with dividers for the power tools and such. Man did that free up some space by getting rid of the cases they were in. The middle shelf on the right was all tools but now it is for supplies. I still have hours of clean-up and sorting to do yet but the organization is getting better. The divider idea i got from a fella on here from an older post .

Re: Trailer: Customizing Ideas Needed. Long

More pics of trailer. This thing gets used so it isnt very pretty. I dont know how many miles i have towed it but it needs tires "3 are bald and the fourth has been replaced already and that is half gone too" and the right rear brakes are not working anymore. It will be getting an overhaul this spring.

-it does seem to get very hot in there in the summer, but with the door open all day its usually a nice shady place to take a break during the day.

-Like any black vehicle it shows dirt and scratches easier than a white trailer, but it gets regular washes.

-Its a $1200 option but definatly worth it, love the ramp door, worked on some jobs with barn door trailers and they were a pain in the ass compared to this. if I have a problem with room and I cant open it (very rare), every tool will fit out the side door.

-paid $8975+tax, got the "quad-floor" option, it is a plastic veneered plywood for the floor that is very grippy even in the snow, torsion axles, also got the aluminum rims just for looks

We looked at a lot of differant manufacturers and chose Agassiz, we had it custom built exactly how we needed. They have excellant warranty, I think it is a 10 year structural. They build them to last.

Thanks for the info.

Well, I ordered mine today. 7' x 14' Agassiz. I got the contractor package which has ladder racks, 16" oc I-beam floor joists, 3/4" ply on walls, lights, roof vents and a 36" side door. I also got the quad floor based on the recommendations of you and another Agassiz owner. I opted for the barn doors but also added a ramp that slides and stows under the floor. I went for the black which should look pretty sharp with my logo. I will get some pics up once I take delivery in 2-3 weeks.
