Re: Trailer Alarm TrailerGuard 1.5
I know it has been a while on this one but I thought I would reply my experience with trailer alarms. I put one in my 6x12 (that I sold about 3 months ago) after getting it broken into and having several thousand in tools stolen. A few months later, at the same job, somebody attempted to break in but the alarm went off. The neighbors said the guy drove off like crazy. Not a scratch on the trailer. I put the alarm in my new trailer (7x16) and I feel much more secure leaving it places while we go to lunch or even sometimes overnight. Cheap insurance overall as a $250 alarm can save thousands. Also, get insurance on the items in the trailer as it isn't expensive compared to the cost of replacing the tools. Anyway...

Re: Trailer Alarm TrailerGuard 1.5Quote:
Nothing worse than pulling a 7x20 out of the parking lot at lunch and locking all 4 wheels up with the siren blasting and lights flashing because of forgetting to disarm. Stops the tow vehicle and trailer dead in it's tracks. Of course, not that I'd know from personal experience or anything! I am running the autopage RF-320 (about $30 online) on mine with a battery backup($15 used from auto salvage yard). I have a trickle charger ($20 from the autoparts store) on my system as I plug in at home every night but you could just as easily put a solar panel on top. I also bought an extra siren speaker for the outside ($10 online) as I used the one that came with the kit inside and it is deafening in a closed trailer. Instead of the door pins I put a regular motion detector inside at the front so if side or rear doors are opened - or sides cut through - it will pick up movement and alarm($20 online). Shock detector (comes with RF-320 system) also installed if trailer is rocked or moved and sets off alarm. Total cost = <$100 with wire, etc. I guarantee it works every bit as good as the $300 system and the labor is the same to install. As far as GPS goes, just get a cheap cell phone with service and leave it on and buried in the trailer on charge. No one will be looking for something like that and if the trailer does ever get stolen, you can track it with one of the locater services and get the coordinates. Plus you always have a back up phone on the job site. Autopage does have several systems that DO have 2 way communication and GPS built in but of course they're more money. Just another option......... (FYI, I am in no way affiliated with or have any interest in www.autopage.com - Just a satisfied user of their products.) Re: Trailer Alarm TrailerGuard 1.5
svronthmve, that is an alternative.
The true purpose built trailer alarms will flash the lights and sound the siren like the car alarm, but also lock up the electric brakes. Thus, helping to prevent trailer theft. As I come back to this thread a couple of years later, it must be mentioned that Trailer Guard is no longer in business. Lyle
