Sag Under Load

Hello:

Wondering if anyone out there has a bead on this one...

I have a 2007 Chevy Silverado 1500 classic 4wd and the rear sags excessively when I'm pulling my trailer. Also the trailer is all over the place when I hit bumps.

I've tried airbags and overload springs on previous trucks, but they stiffened the ride to the point of aggravating my bad back. Any ideas out there?

Also, I heard of a unit called Roadmaster Active Suspension that is supposed to get rid of the sag and make it handle better, but does not stiffen the ride. They say if improves handling and ride even when not carrying a load. Their website says they have a money back garantee, but I don't want to go through the hassle of installing it and taking it back out if doesn't work. Anyone heard of this?

Thanks.

I am towing a 22' Sea-Ray on a single axle trailer. About 450 lbs. tongue weight.

Thanks.

Re: Sag Under Load

Does it have a factory tow package on it?

My 2003 GMC Z71 pulls a 20' enclosed trailer loaded with an A-gas car and a toolbox, no problem, no sag.

Re: Sag Under Load

450 lbs of tongue weight should NOT be causing sag on that truck, are you sure of the weight?

I can see it bouncing over heavy bumps/bridges but other than that you should be having no problems.

Like posted earlier....Does it have a towing package?

Re: Sag Under Load

sounds like the tongue weight is too much-doesn't sound like 450lbs acting on the rear suspension. go to a parking lot (large) and move the boat back on the trailer to take some of the weight off and drive through the parking lot-if you take the weight off the tongue it should stop snaking around on you. If you want to test the weight, go to a weigh station and ask the trooper for help-I've weighed my car in the past by doing this.

Re: Sag Under Load

I put on the Roadmaster Active Suspension and it took care of the problem. Handles and rides better without a load too. Even got rid of wheel hop when accelerating away from a stop and turn at the same time. Cool.

Thanks.

That's a long trailer for one axle, IMO.

I pulled my wifes step dads fish house a couple years ago on a two hour trip one way and it's a 18ft single axle trailer and it pulled worse than my 14ft (+ toung) dump trailer. You could feel every bump and it was all over the road, this was with air bags even. My fuel mileage was horrible as well more than likely due to the height and the wind.

A trailer that longs needs another axle. It would make it much more stable.
