Re: Replacing Fuel Injectors

I dunno...

I just read a 9 PAGE THREAD where MULTIPLE people have the EXACT same issue and symptoms (down to the MPH where the CEL comes on) and NO ONE has been able to solve the problem reliably. No one.

Collectively, everything on the engines has been swapped out from gaskets to wires to injectors to coils to MAF sensors to O2 sensors...you name it.

It's like a chasing a ghost. It's terrible that no one can solve this problem--not dealers or local mechanics.

One guy had a good point in that 20 years ago, you didn't have CEL, you just drove until something broke down. Maybe the CEL is just not really something worth paying attention to, especially on a high mileage vehicles.

I have $11k into this truck. If I get three years out of it, I'll be thrilled. I'll just drive it till it dies. Not a great solution, but it's like throwing good after bad.

Re: Replacing Fuel Injectors

I ran into a problem with a Pontiac Grand Am many yrs ago that had multiple misfire codes and the car did indeed act like it was mis-firing. The poor girl had it to several dealers who replaced everything that was electrical. They replaced the coil packs, wires, plugs, ignition module, knock sensor, PCM, crank sensor, etc. I stumbled on the problem by accident when the dealer authorized me to drive it home. I drove the car about 20 miles before it did it and i had the Tech-2 on it the whole time. This car also had to be doing at least 50mph before it would mis-fire too. It turned out the brake switch was bad. The brake lights worked properly but the brake switch has two internal circuits and the one circuit was shorting out causing the switch to flicker. Now you may think this is no big deal but this circuit controlled the torque convertor lock "overdrive" so when the switch would "flicker" it would cause the convertor to lock/unlock several times a second making the engine stumble. Something to think about.

Re: Replacing Fuel Injectors

I used to be a dealership mechanic for many years and would still suggest going to a dealer as most of the common problems you end up seeing over and over again. You just need to establish a relationship with a mechanic that you trust ask around and even talk to people in other departments at the dealership you will find out who knows what they are doing. Once you find out who is good get them to do minor service work to get an idea of their skill and quality of work. Then you thank them in person and establish a connection by asking for him/her to work on your vehicle personally. This will make him/her more accountable for the work being done as they now have to maintain your trust in their abilities. If they do not specialize in the problem you are after they will recommend the best person in the dealership to look after you. There are really good mechanics everywhere not just dealerships but once you find one keep taking your vehicle to them and you are less likely to get ripped off.
