Re: Red Light Camera Tickets Rowboat !

On that note, on the Phila. NBC station, nbc10.com, they had a story last night about a guy who got a red light camera ticket when he was in a funeral procession. They showed the photo on the news and sure enough, the guy says that was him going through the red light. Also in the photo standing right next to his car in the middle of the intersection was the traffic cop waving everybody through the red light that was in the funeral procession.
It took the news crew to go to city to finally get them to toss the ticket. Everytime he went they expected him to pay.

I got one of those stupid tickets in the mail yesterday. I remember when it happened too, I was turning right, not eating the light. I remember seeing the flashing camera lights. I am going to dispute it.

anyone notice how impossibly short these yellow lights are now, I mean what are you suppose to do, stand on your breaks at 40+ mph factor in towing a trailer and all, they are trying to make you run red lights, better put on a tin foil cap

Well the legal answer there is that you are exceeding safe speeds. My father once got a ticket for "failure to yield to a vehicle improperly passing through a red light". Believe that crap? He had the green and got T-Boned and they both got tickets.

I got in an accident once in winter, where the guy next to me lost control. The cop said "If you couldn't stop in time you were going too fast." WTF?!

In the City of Chicago we have the nice long yellows but outside of Chicago, they're real quick.

I read an article about those cameras and they were operated by for profit companies giving a cut to the cities using them, they really piss me off, we have bigger problem in this country than people running yellow lights.

I got that same (or similar ticket), it was "failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident", what a crock of sh*t, the insurance company used it as an excuse to pay only a percent of the damage saying I was partly at fault because I was driving.

What intersection was the ticket from, I'd like to add of my list of places to be "careful", those cameras seem to be popping up in a lot of places out here.

Related to red light cameras, are any of you guys buying that transmitter that the ambulances and fire trucks have to turn the light green in your direction? I see them for sale from time to time, usually in the 200-300 dollar range.

Sounds illegal but I'd like one. How would that work, if it's an RF signal how does it know which light to change? I've seen ones that turn all the lights red, good for emergency vehicles, not so good for me. Many traffic signals will change if you have a strobe light pointed at them.

It's IR. If you ever notice on the traffic light truss arms, there's a thing on top that looks like a motion sensor with a little floodlight bulb screwed in right above it. That's the receiver, and the white bulb confirms it received the signal.

Older one's actually "listen" for a particular siren sound called "yelp" and make them all turn red. Many estate and apartment building driveway gates also have a feature that listen for the yelp siren and will open the gate for fire trucks. If you were able to get a yelp siren, you could open an aweful lot of driveway gates, and some private parking deck's overhead doors.
