New Sprinters

I have a 2005 sprinter and I love it, great milage. Yesterday I'm at the dodge dealer for 30k mi maintainance and I see they have the 07's, MAN what a sweet van, I took one for a drive, same length and height as mine, the 07's have an additional 3" of headroom inside, tons of dash storage, totally redesigned dash eliminating the stupid center console that sticks out in the 06 and earlier vans. Now for the goodies, v6 turbo diesel has TONs of power over the straight 5 TD's and milage is on par with the 5cyl. the steering is much better than the earlier and telescoping/tilt is ergonomically far better than the earlier ones. And the ride is smooth as a caddie. Mine feels like a dually without a load, very stiff and rough. over all I love the sprinter vans and the 07 are a 100% improvement over the 06-earlier, probably trading in end of summer. sweet van

Re: New Sprinters

I looked at the 06's a few months ago and check e-bay weekly there is not much of a used market. The prices on the 07's seemed high compared to the 06's maybe in order to deplete the 06 stock?

The 06 cockpit did not impress me at all it looked and felt like a work truck. After 2 box trucks I swore never to own a "work truck" again. Sore legs and a twisted back can not be tolerated at any price.

Looks like I will stay with my Titan for another year---hopefully since I am finally getting it lettered.

Re: New Sprinters

sprinters are great...couple of downsides -

make sure that your dealer has enough qualified techs to work on it.

if you have employees, they can blow a motor on these in a heartbeat if they want.

upside - great cargo
great milage

and one thing to bear in mind...the truck is $600+/- month, but it doesn't cost you anything. it's an expense, like material.

in addition, what does it cost you to miss a days worth of work because your truck broke down?

Average MPG around 30, most work trucks get 1/2 of that. I spend around $7,500 a year on gas----cut that in half = $3250 and divide it by 12 months= a savings of $270 a month. No idea how much diesel cost.

Now if you took that $270 a month and invested it properly the truck would be free.

How much is the Mercedes grill option? It's the only one that I want.

Re: New Sprinters

Someone on E-Bay is selling them for small money. The kit is a must since why drive a Dodge when you can drive a Benz.

Does diesel cost more than gas?

Re: New Sprinters

roughly 30 cents a gallon more in MT

has the towing rating gone up on the sprinters?
my dad was looking at a sprinter, but he often pulls an 11000 pound dump trailer and the sprinter was rated for 5000, so he is still driving his diesel E350

Re: New Sprinters

I literally just rolled a new sprinter into my driveway. I have been a Chevy man my whole life. got the 2500 vans for my crews, a silverado and a tahoe.
Sick of the fuel pump problems and the crappy gas mileage.
I own a flooring company in Virginia - just dropped 40K on a Diesel 3500 sprinter extended bed dually w/the high top. I'll keep yall posted on its performance. So far it drives better than anything I've ever owned - feels like a benz.

Re: New Sprinters

Are they 4wd? AWD? They seem almost prohibitively expensive to me, but the Chevy I have been driving always has something wrong with it. Can you burn bio-diesel in them?

Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Sprinters and freightliners ARE mercedes. Benz chassis, at least the originals and most likely new ones. The V6 TD tho sound like an american engine . The 5 cyl is Benz

Re: New Sprinters

Yeah, those Sprinters are nice

The 07's Dodge Sprinters are Mercedes... they are sold as Mercedes and VW's (The Volkswagon LT) in Europe. They've got the 3.5L V6 Gas and the 3.0L Diesel. I've driven both the old Sprinter and the new one... they are like different vehicles! The 07 diesel engine is quiet and the body is much bigger. Best of all the slide door opening is HUGE! The floor is wider too (similar to Ford E-350).

Its almost too nice to be a work truck... Anyone know if you can get a factory center console in those things?

Re: New Sprinters

I test drove one recently and have a brochure-the sliding door is wide enough to forklift a pallet in! They make a 'bench' seat (instead of dual buckets) which lifts up for storage space (not convenient) and has a small fold down part in the middle that you could use to write on-not terribly friendly for what contractors need. Plenty of power with the diesel when needed and it has a tight turning radius.

This got me thinking... Anybody ever try to load a Pallet in a Ford/Chevy Cargo Van? I think the Chevy slide door is 44" wide and the Ford 60/40 doors are like 42"... What is the minimum opening you really need to be able to load pallets in the side door? I don't know how much clearance a forklift operator needs...

Re: New Sprinters

I have looked really hard at the sprinter for a couple of months now.

The problem is, I want to see one with a company vehicle skin on it. I have yet to see one fully decked out by a company who has them in their fleet.

Re: New Sprinters

A full skin job can be 5-6 grand-that's a lot of beans on top of a 42k rig plus more $$ for shelving.

there is a pretty cool Sprinter rolling around Dover-the older style-with a full wrap. The red/white/blue scheme (eagle and flag on an electrical contractor) REALLY stands out.

Thats why I am thinking if we make the move to purchase one, we will skin it out and see what happens.
