New Fuel Efficient Trucks Are Now Guaranteed
You heard it here first.
If you have heard, the big three are having trouble with leases. With GM and Chrysler announcing they are stopping leasing vehicles all together and Ford hasn't announced the same thing yet. The cause of this is the drop in the resale price of used trucks and suvs, which causes the leasing companies to have to make up for the value they predicted these vehicles to be worth at the start of leases coming to and end. Ford is writing off about 2 billion as a result. If there was ever something that would cause a change in Detroit, this has got to be it. If you look at Ford, basically Ford's Trucks are the bread and butter of that company. The F150 has been the saviour of Ford for well over 20 years and has grown more and more important to Ford. The problem is simple it's supply and demand. As the supply of used trucks has risen the price of them has dropped, consumers purchases of new trucks and SUVs has plummeted, Ford for one simply will not survive as a company with a shake out of the dominance of the F150. Ford will lead the changes, they have to get truck sales moving again, they have no choice, Ford has long ago turned into a truck company, the inside joke has always been, why does Ford even bother to make cars. Ford will have only 2 choices, totally turn a 180 and blow away the other manufacturers at being a car company or do what it takes to makes trucks and suvs appealing to the public again. I'm pretty sure it's going to be the latter, they simply aren't a car company anymore and the answer is simple on what would need to be done to return the public to buying trucks and suvs and that's one thing - fuel economy. I'm predicting you'll see an attempt at a total revolutionary change in trucks, the first generation will be retooling existing offerings with more smaller bore existing engines, retunes of existing big bores. The next generation will be introductions of more hybrids, more unconventional fuel choices and a diesel in the F150, the 3rd generation will be where the real payoff for all of us comes, but probably not sooner than 7-10 years or more. You heard it here first. The end of leasing is one of the biggest events to happen, yet I think few realize what it means. |

No it means that I will take a big loss if I trade my Titan in for a Sprinter.

Re: New Fuel Efficient Trucks Are Now Guaranteed
I heard that this morning too. I didn't catch the whole story though.
I can't believe they would cut out leasing altogether. They are really going to shoot themselves in the foot. Nobody "buys" cars anymore. How else can people get a status symbol car that they otherwise could never afford. Now they will have to buy the real car..."forget the leased Lexus honey, we have to buy a Kia instead" What will the Jones's think?
