New Dodge Sprinter

Hey guys,
So after getting sick of squishing all my remodeling & building stuff into my Express Van I'm strongly considering purchasing a new Dodge "mercedes" Sprinter van.

I have been to the lot and seen the hightop long version as well as hightop mid size version.

My thoughts for the ultimate contracting rig are as follows, long sprinter with all tools and supply I could ever really need including a desk area & place to dry my coats in winter. Maybe i'll throw in a microwave & small fridge too.

However !!! The new sprinters outfitted with racks and all cost like $45,000 ! So I'm still confused as to what the best solution is. However the new sprinter is really nice even if the payments monthly with $5k down would be like $700.00

Just some thoughts, what do you all think of them?

i would jump on the sprinter all day. I have a tundra that looks nice and doesn't hold crap that cost 700 a month. I don't know what I was thinking.

My next vehicle will be a van or something similar

I have been saving my pennies for a sprinter - as soon as I can I'm buying one. I happened to see a guy that had his hooked up - he was cutting base in the van on a fold down miter saw station he made - hooked up to a vac for dust extraction. I was so jealous.

I've got 50K miles on my 2006 Sprinter. It's only a low roof, but if I had to go back to a Chevy or Ford van I don't know where I would put half my stuff! I'm spoiled rotten & this is an old model! The new style that you are looking at is wider on the inside than even the Chevy & is almost 6 1/2 feet tall inside! It will change the way you do business, guaranteed.

What kind of mileage are you getting Steve? The 06, is that the new body style (with the diesel engine)?

I test drove a Sprint last year and it was really nice. The amount of room is incredible (for the larger one). The mileage was almost enough to make me choose, if you think about the savings in money for gas mileage.

Can anyone else post their mpg from the sprinter (with year).

20-22 mpg's w/ a/c. 22-24 mpg's w/o a/c. Real consistent regardless of load. My lead foot keeps me from better mileage.

for clarity of those looking into the Sprinter-the 06 was teh old body style w/ a straight 5 cylinder turbo diesel and the 07 is new with a six cylinder td. they're also making them w/ gas engines.

Re: New Dodge Sprinter

My 2006 Sprinter has been around (in Europe) since 1993. Alot of bugs have been worked out over the years & the 2006, being the last production year for the old style is very reliable. The 2007 & newer still have some bugs to work out, but they are still a very good investment for my type of business.
The straight 5 cylinder in my van is so easy to service. The V6 diesel is a bit tighter in the engine compartment & the mpg's are a bit lower.
If I had extra money I would upgrade to a 2008, but I sure don't look forward to having to build a false floor, drawers & shelves all over again. I expect to run my van 10 years. I have been stocking up on common parts off Ebay since buying the van so that I can keep my repair cost down.
